Hello Everyone,
My son's MAW to go on a Disney cruise will be granted in late July. We just got the word yesterday about the date. He'll be 5 in June (we had to wait until he turned 5 before he could leave the state on a MAW trip).

Does anyone know if there is a shirt he could wear that says something like "I'm on my Wish trip" or something similiar? I really want him to feel special but since his hair is all grown back and he's active again, he looks just like any other kid (which is wonderful and I'm so thankful). I'm going to ask our MAW coordinator about it but I thought I'd ask all of you here.

Thanks so much!

 Hi there, Congratulations on making it this far in your journey. We've just completed treatment in March and we are leaving for our wish trip next Monday. Our wish granter presented my daughter (who is still baldish, but will be wearing a hat, so will look "normal") with a backpack with a shirt and hat in it. I would expect that your son will be recieving something similar. If you can request, ask for a white t-shirt, we got navy, not the best for Florida. I have seen pictures of other wish kids and they had other color t-shirts. The t-shirts actually say Make-a-Wish. Making a shirt that says I'm on my wish trip is not a bad idea though.

When do you go? Have a fabulous trip.

Personally I think a shirt saying "I'm on my Wish trip" would be a bit tacky as people who have any understanding of MAW will treat him as if he were a lot sicker than he actually is and will be gushing all over him. It is asking for both attention and special treatment from everybody.

More than likely he will want to be treated as if he were normal.

I would, however, let the people who run the Kid's Club know about it.

My DD did the disney cruise for her MAW trip. They gave her a MAW shirtand a MAW pin for each of us to wear, and I made us matching shirts for the first day. I would not worry about CM needing to know that he is a wish child. The ship is not like going to the parks. We also had a wish coordinator on the ship she helped with anything and made sure that the trip was truely magical. When we cruised there was 4 other wish kids sailing.I almost felt like the crew knew she would be sailing. If you have any questions you could PM . Have a magical cruise . Have you been over on the cruise board yet? They are also groups of Disers that do cruise meets on the ship they chat before sailing so you feel like you already know so people on board. They really helped make her trip more magical.

The ship is notified in advance for each wish child who is sailing and your wish coordinator will be sending in your son's paperwork including his medical information. I agree with Cheshire Figment- besides the fact that there will most likely be other wish children onboard and in the kid's clubs I doubt your son would want to be treated any differently by his peers let alone gushing adults who perhaps would ask questions. After all he's on this trip as a respite from all his treatments, not to be reminded of what he's been through. The crew will be able to do special things for him outside of the areas where other guests are present to make him feel special. I hope you have a great time! ---kathy
