Just got in from seeing Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Great movie! The attention to detail was fantastic and it really gave you a feel for the period. I was very glad that they didn't "dumb down" the nautical and naval terminology and slang. The battle scenes were really well done, and there was plenty of character development throughout the movie. Russell Crowe did a great job, and had a terrific supporting cast. Two thumbs way up!

Thanks! Maybe I'll go see it one day this week. Sounds great!! :)

Oh, thanks for the review!

I can't wait to see it....I love Russell too...so that is a bonus!

Thanks..hopefully I'll be seeing it this coming week.

I saw it myself this weekend but found it rather flat. If you like the history channel you will like it otherwise wait for dvd.

And I love Russell Crowe, fell in love when I saw Virtuosity.

I paln on seeing the movie Monday.
I was surprised that the movie didnt do better at the box office after all the good reviews i saw!!

sounds good and I'm also a Russell Crowe fan since LA Confidental

DH says it didn't do that well at the box office this weekend.

My daughter saw it and really liked it, I don't think she understood it very well judging by some of the quesitons she asked me.. but she said it was great, but kind of gory and graphic.

DH and I both liked it a lot. It takes the time to really develop the characters and show the side of the ships that have never been shown before. The opening scene took me a while to figrue out those things hanging from the ceiling were the crew's butts in hammocks. LOL. See it and you will understand! It was really great.

Thanks for the review, Grog. I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time and hope to see it this week. :)

I have to admit I really didnt want to go see it at first. But I'm really really glad I did. It was very worthwhile and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I didnt find it to be gory at all. There were a couple of scenes maybe, but none that were really bad. Not nearly what you see in cinema these days. There was an amputation, but you didnt actually "see" anything.

Could we have an early Oscar contender here?

Four thumbs up for it from me and Chris!
