Massachusetts residents - anyone gotten the swine flu SHOT?

My son got the mist at U Mass Boston about three weeks ago...no big fuss nothing. No line.

Hmmm... DS18 attends UMass-Dartmouth; I wonder if they will be giving their students the vaccine too?? Because of mild asthma he is currently on the list at his former pediatrician's office, for the tier 2 patients. They don't have the next batch of vaccine in yet, but hopefully they'll get more in and he'll be called to schedule an appt for it. He got the seasonal flu shot a few days ago.

I'm happy to report that DS21 (who has more severe asthma) got his seasonal flu shot as well as the H1N1 shot today.

I know that college students were a high priority but the profs ...I work in a school and the kids can get it but the teachers cannot. Who knows.

I've pretty much given up on finding the regular seasonal flu shot.. Every clinic I've checked so far has been cancelled and don't think they'll be getting anymore in stock..

I think that all students and teachers should get it; they're among the people who come in contact with the most people and surfaces (door knobs, desks, etc) during the course of a day. I'm glad your DS got it.

I hope you're able to get the shot soon, C. Ann. Speaking of the regular seasonal shot, I was finally able to book an appt with my doctor's office to get it, but my appointment isn't until November 12th.

They actually had told me to keep calling back but not to try until next week, but on my way home from work yesterday afternoon I decided to give it a try, and sure enough the woman told me that I called at the right time because they had JUST gotten in a supply of the vaccine and were scheduling appts for whoever called in and ask at that time!!

I'd be happy if DH and I could eventually get the H1N1 vaccine too, but at this point I'm just glad that all 4 of us will have gotten the seasonal vaccine, and that DS21 has gotten the N1H1 shot, and really hoping that DS18 will be able to, too.
All of the pharmacies around here ran out.

Certain people can't be around those who have had the mist - I'm one of them.. Since I live with my DD and her family for the winter months, we all need the shot - which just doesn't seem to be available anywhere..

At this point in time, the risk is incredibly minimal that you or your loved ones will die from H1N1.

My husband, myself and our dd are all high risk and we haven't had the vax yet. Even so, Our risk of dying from a hundred other things is much higher than dying of H1N1. Think lightning, chicken bone, falling, car crash, hit by a truck, etc. Worrying about all of those things would be just as futile.

Take whatever precautions you can, get the vax when it becomes available and until then...

Don't worry, be happy!

My husband's neuro oncologist wanted him to wait 3-4 weeks between the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines. I'm not sure if this is the case for people with normal immune systems.

I think I might call our Family Dr here and ask what his thoughts are on having both together as they seem to want to do at her school. She is in great health..but she is there and Mum is here, soooooooooo you know how that goes!!

We're leaving for Disney next week and are trying to get vaccinated before we go. Anyone care to share where they have been able to find the vaccine in shot form? It's so frustrating trying to find any information whatsoever - no one I have called at hospitals, health dept, etc. seems to know anything. TIA

But how long does it take for it to actually kick in? I think the regular flu shot is 2 weeks, what is it for H1N1?? It may not be a factor on your trip.

Good question. I have read that an immune response kicks in after about 8 days. That won't matter for my husband and I - we have been unable to find the shot. My three little ones have all gotten their first dose of the H1N1 - my older son got the shot last Monday, and my younger two got the nasal spray on Friday. I'm not sure, but I'm hoping that they at least have some small protection as the first dose is 'priming' their immune system.

My three little ones have all gotten their first dose of the H1N1 - my older son got the shot last Monday, and my younger two got the nasal spray on Friday. I'm not sure, but I'm hoping that they at least have some small protection as the first dose is 'priming' their immune system.

I sure hope so too!! After your kids get it you just want it to hurry up and work!

We were at Disney the last week of Sept into early Oct and we were fine. Just make sure you all wash your hands every chance you get. We also had the antibacterial stuff with us, but nothing beats a good hand washing!!
