I have just spent the last 4 days in NYC visiting my cousin, and last night I got to see Mary Poppins on Broadway! What a magical show! The sets and special effects were amazing. There were moments in which my jaw literally dropped. The last moment had the audience absolutely roaring with delight. I left the theatre feeling so happy.
However, just to warn you- don't expect the movie. Beyond the basic premises, it tells almost an entirely different story. I need to reread the books. Most of the film songs were there, but differently placed and often with whole new lyrics. Missing from the film songs are "I Love to Laugh," "Stay Awake," and "Sister Sofregette." It was very difficult for me to shake the movie out of my head. I kept seeing Julie Andrews. It took some getting used to.
