CarolA,
I don't have much in the way of information about Mary Poppins.
This is what I have:
Mary Poppins opens at the Prince Edward Theatre London in December.
Produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Disney, this long awaited new stage version is based on the stories of Pamela Travers and the 1964 Walt Disney film. Mary Poppins will feature many of the songs from the Sherman Brothers' Oscar-winning film score which included "Chim Chim Cher-ee", "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" - as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
Cameron Mackintosh obtained the stage rights to the Pamela Travers books in the 1980s and worked with her during the last three years of her life planning to bring the essence of her books to the stage. Together with Disney he is creating a new show combining timeless classic songs from the film with material from the books themselves.
The production will open at the Prince Edward Theatre London on 15th December 2004, 40 years after the premiere of the Disney film.
The actress who is going to play Mary Poppins on stage has finally been announced. Laura Michelle Kelly, who is currently appearing in Fiddler On The Roof in New York, has appeared in West End shows including Mamma Mia!, Les Misérables, and Whistle Down the Wind as well as starring in Beauty And The Beast and, most recently, as Eliza Doolittle in 2003s acclaimed production of My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
