Marvel Restaurant on the Wish

Too bad, the ending is really fun. Maybe don’t knock it till you’ve actually seen the whole thing?
As I said in my post, we thought it was over when we left.
Not everything is going to appeal to everyone and you knew there was a Marvel restaurant when you booked the cruise - why not book a different ship or make alternative dining plans for the evening?
I am not sure why we would have avoided this restaurant without first giving it a chance. I am also not sure why I my comments are being interpreted as coming from someone who doesn't like Marvel, is anti-Marvel, or is a Marvel hater. As I have attempted to explain, not being a Marvel fan does not mean that I have anything against the franchise, but rather that I simply haven't seen the movies in order to know anything about Marvel. But not being a Marvel fan seems to have really irked some people. It is not like we approached this dining experience with dread or apprehension, we were interested and curious to see what it was all about. My observations were merely about the restaurant, and the execution of the theme, not about the movies or the franchise itself.

Because your comments come off as implying that this experience should have been geared, exclusively, toward you, as a non-Marvel fan, and that, since it wasn't, they should have made it a specialty restaurant and designed something else that would have appealed, specifically, to you. It may not have been your intention, but your post comes off as sounding very entitled. Most of the people eating in that restaurant will have watched at least one of the 30+ Marvel movies that have been released. When we went, there were countless adults and children excited about the theme and all dressed up in a variety of MCU outfits. I'm going to speculate, having not watched one Marvel movie, you are an outlier, so, no, I'm sorry, this restaurant is not going to be geared toward you.

They time the meal service to end when the show ends—serving dessert is actually tied into the final scene. So if they served you dessert early I assume that had to be because you asked to leave early and didn’t ask your servers if the show was over/if you should stay. It also is pretty obvious if you are watching the story unfold that it isn’t over yet before the he final portion. Regardless, my point is just it is a bit unfair to judge a show you haven’t actually fully experienced, regardless for the reason for your leaving early.

You seem so surprised people aren’t agreeing with you, so let me explain what didn’t sit right with me about your review (in addition to the fact you judged a show you walked out of midway). You said it was not accessible to non-Marvel fans. I have not seen most marvel stuff, but it’s not a very complicate plot or anything. It’s superheroes doing high tech stuff and battling bad guys—if my seven year old could follow along and understand and enjoy it without having seen any of the movies I imagine most adults can. You said the clips shown between the ant man segments had no context or story, but they did—they showed an intro screen with facts about each character followed by movie scenes featuring character. They actually served to help non-marvel fans feel more included by learning about the characters, contrary to your assertion that the restaurant did not consider non-marvel fans in its design.

I also just don’t see how it is any different than any of the other entertainment on the ship. You said the frozen restaurant seemed more accessible to a non fan but I guess I don’t see any difference—in both if you actually watch the show you can follow what is going on.

The real question for OP is whether OP would have liked it more if they served this:

I'm sorry - I couldn't help myself.

I appreciate hearing the OP's review. It's a subjective opinion. There is no right or wrong. We haven't sailed on the Wish, but I personally prefer the non-show restaurants on the other ships, that others here seem to think are subpar. I'm ok that they are just pretty to look at, and prefer those dinners much more than the show dinners, like Rapunzel's. I prefer to have a more subdued setting where the family can chat, communicate easier with the servers, and enjoy a more traditional dining experience. But, I understand that we aren't the target audience for the Wish, so it's perfectly fine that there are different options for different guests.

But we felt that this restaurant was not really designed for the non-Marvel fan. And that may seem like a Captain Obvious type observation, but when one of the rotational dining restaurants is dedicated to a specific set of intellectual property, the story/show should be accessible to fans and non-fans alike.

I don't understand how my comments implied that this experience should have been geared, exclusively, to me or non-Marvels, as I stated in my original post that I thought it should be geared to both non-fans and fans alike. So how that comes off as sounding entitled I am not sure. I certainly did not bash the restaurant, demand they get rid of it, or anything along those line.

No, I am not at all surprised that people are not agreeing with me. I wasn't looking for agreement as much as I was providing my observations, and looking for a discussion.

It may have been their intent to time the final scene with dessert, but that is not what happened. We certainly did not ask for our dessert early. We had the 8:15 dinner. According to our photos, our three desserts arrived to our table at 9:20. Assuming we took at least 10 minutes to eat them, we left around 9:30. I am not sure how leaving dinner after 1 hour and 15 minutes is walking out midway. If we missed a portion of the video that indicated that more was to come, that is on us.

This is well said, and sums up a lot of where I was coming from. I do think that the music could have been toned down a little during dinner, or maybe play the audio from the movie clips that they were showing.

Of course! And maybe they did . . .after we left. 😁

How dare you leave an hour and 15 minutes into dinner, after all the courses have been served, and have an opinion about the experience! /s

I don't know if you were around for it, but there as a pretty heated thread debating whether it was misleading that they featured this cupcake in the commercial, but didn't actually serve enlarged food like they do at the Ant-Man themed restaurant at Disneyland. I couldn't tell if you were kidding, but they do not indeed serve cupcakes like this, even if you stick around. It was just a bad attempt at humor to give a nod to that thread.

Now I didn't get that at all. I thought they were just expressing their opinion on dining in a themed venue that they had no knowledge of the story of the venue.

You can count me into the non-Marvel group, also. I haven't been on the Wish yet to experience that dining room, but I would probably not understand it either. As for the extremely loud music in there, I wasn't there, but on other Disney ships I've been on talking with your tablemates often isn't an option due to the general noise level already in the dining rooms, including any piped in music.
