Martin Luther King Day Rates

I was wondering why WDW resort rates have such a vast increase for Martin Luther King Day? (according to room rates on WDWinfo.com)....I'm assuming that's what "MLK" stands for?

Does WDW do something extra special on this holiday to make the parks especially busy? Why are the rates higher for this day in particular?

Rates are higher because many schools make MLK a three or even four day weekend which results in more families heading to WDW. As far as I know, there is nothing special done in the parks or resorts to commemorate the holiday. The increase is strictly due to demand.

Have you ever heard of the concept of supply and demand? Its basic economics. Demand for rooms is high, supply is static so prices will go up to reflect that. You'll see this occurring most holiday weekends from now on - basically anytime a high percentage of schools or businesses have 3 day weekends or are off for a few days. Given that it has been nigh on impossible to get a room at WDW over the MLK weekend for the past 2 months or so it certainly doesn't seem that Disney is having any problems filling the rooms at the holiday weekend prices.

Any weekend that involves a Federal holiday is always an incentive for folks to flock to WDW. I'll be part of the flock MLK weekend 2009.

Any holiday weekend where people get off extra for work means the park attendance increases.
