Mars is moving away from Earth

This morning at 5:51AM, the planet Mars was closer to Earth than it has been in 59,619 years. And I slept in. It really didn't matter since it's been raining on and off for the past 24 hours. I suppose that I can just wait until it gets this close again. In the year 2287.

NASA used the Hubble Space Telescope to take advantage of the closeness of Mars and took some of the sharpest images of "The Red Planet" this morning. The images can be found by following the link at:

Do you think that Disney planned the opening of Mission Space based on the fact that Mars is so close? :teeth:

I still haven't seen it...

John I didnt know you were the next Carl Sagan...

Of course.:teeth: I wonder if they would give Mickey's Pluto a ride just for himself if the planet Pluto was in the news now?;)

I've seen it, I actually looked at it last night. It was just a really bigger brighter looking "star" here. I bet it would have been something to see through a telescope. I still remember seeing Haley's Comet through a huge telescope that a local man put up....I wasn't really empressed with the comet but Saturn was Awesome!

I saw mars last night also. Tonight Ashli and a friend are going to view it from the rooftop of a building at WKU. The science department is setting up a rather large telescope and inviting all the students to come have a look.

Thanks John for that article... I wasn't able to see it this morning even though I was up and wide awake at 5:41, because of the storms we had. I've viewed it a few other nights this past week though.

I saw it yesterday, at work, out my back door. It was bright and you could see tints of red flashing back and forth.;)

I've gone out and looked at Mars several times lately. That's the advantage of living somewhere where it rarely rains in the summer. :teeth:

It's amazing.
