Marriott's Cypress Harbour: What are the 2 other "non-main" pools like?

Hi,

We just booked Marriott's Cypress Harbour for January, and discovered that the main pool and bar will be closed for rehab from Jan-Mar. What are the other 2 pools like? I know it won't be ideal swim weather, but my 3 kids will want to swim some no matter what the temp. Are the other pools kid-friendly? Do you have any suggestions for what buildings to request to be near open pools and good view?

Thanks! :sunny:

What!!! Now that is no good!!! We are there in February. What did they say exactly? There is a small quiet pool which is usually used by adults and then the larger pool on the island but with all the guests it will be a tight fit. That stinks!!!

Feb is too cold for a lot of swimmers so maybe it would be as bad as you think, crowdwise. Good luck!

We go to Florida during Presidents week every year. We had 5 days of 80 degree plus weather in 2006 and usually have at least a couple of days over 80 so there are plenty of swimmers.

It says the main pool and bar are closed on the Marriott web-site (for Cypress Harbour).

From Yahoo travel:

*** Renovation alert - 01JAN07-01MAR07 *** Cypress Harbour will be renovating the main pool and bar area. The island Pool and Bayside pool along with a bar area in the Club House will open guests to enjoy

So...can anyone tell me if one of the 2 open pools is good for children, and if so, what building #'s I should request to be near it? :confused3

I believe Jeff is the man to ask... he answered my questions about Cypress Harbour brilliantly on another thread.
Do a search for Marriott Cypress Harbour vs. Vistanta Villages or look up my previous posts (won't allow me to post url directly)

He mentioned there is a kid's water park... not sure though about what building to request.

I can fill you in when I get back... I leave on November 13th and return on the 19th... I'll also ask what they intend to do during the renos...

Here now, and the main pool is open, however, the island pool is closed.

The island pool has a large pool, a kiddie pool, and several hot tubs. We requested a newer room and could have had build 66 which is a walk over the bridge to the island pool and has newer rooms, but they told us upon check in the island pool would be closed, so we got build 57, a long hike to everything. If main pool will be closed, dont worry, I dont think we would miss it, the island pool is nicer IMHO. The island pool is heated, the main pool isnt. We complained and they said theyt were working on it.

The other pool is the bayside pool, nice, especially if you close to it.

The main pool is where everything happens, and it is definately heated. We spend many days hanging out at the resort. We would come down to the main pool early so we could grab four lounge chairs, set up all our stuff, and relax all day long. Everything centers around that pool. there is a kiddy pool that you can see from your chairs, two hot tubs, all of the pool side entertainment takes place there, the bar is there, the pizza hut and ice cream are there, the large bathrooms are there, the dock for the boat ride to the activity center is there, the large deck with the quiet area next to the large pond is there, and the pool is a nicer pool. It has a corner where a number of jets are located on the bottom with places to sit all around it. We will definately miss the main pool and it will impact our week. I would have thought they would do this type of repair work during September/october???

the bayside pool is nothing special.

It's probably along the same lines as the BB/TL refurbs so happens during the cooler months. Sept and Oct are often hot, the guests would be more impacted by lack of a pool then, I would think. Oddly enough, we went end of Sept and stayed onsite and while it was very hot out, the water at POR and TL/BB was pretty cold. I think they stopped heating it to save money. Guess the temps did drop down at night enough to really cool down the water. POR pool had lots of shade and we tried a morning swim so it probably just didn't have a chance to heat in the sun, kids managed one trip down the slide. POFQ was better but the pool was more in the sun and they swam in the afternoon. Good to hear that Marriott still heats the pools. Its probably also good that they do make improvements/remodeling/refurb. Jan and Feb are the coolest months in FL on average and slower than Nov and Dec. Maybe as a Marriott repeat guest you could get them to give you a parking pass (or whatever you would need) for Horizons to use their pool.

true, but Jan and Feb are considered peak months where Sept and October are not. Since they do have two other pools i would think that they would do the construction during the least occupied times (sept/oct) where less guests will be impacted. president's week is a madhouse in Orlando and all the resorts. We usually only visit the parks for 1 day during our week that we are down there. As for driving, that is the main benefit of CH, the pool is just a short walk from your room door. :(

They are redoing the patio/seating area with new pavers by the Marketplace/Pizzahut this month. They are open, but no seating in the patio area. We had to enter the market place through the kitchen this morning for coffee, dont know if Pizza Hut was open, but VERY inconvienient, and as I said the main pool is cold, heat on the fritz I think, the island pool is closed for refurb, still trying to make the best of it.

Well, I sent the manager of MCH a letter yesterday stating my concerns and asking how they plan to deal with them. I'll let you know what I hear if I get a response. I'm considering a switch to Grande Vista. Thanks again for the heads up on this issue.

We were back at Cypress Harbour this past March and requested a Clubhouse (Main pool) Villa. We were told they were all taken by owners and they stuck us far back in the resort. I can't remember the number. It was a couple minute walk to the island pool but had a view of a street and was just an all around yucky feel to the location. The island pool was nice enough, however- large etc. But, no snacks or bar etc.

They moved us a couple of days later to #60 which had the "quiet" pool practically right outside the back door and a beautiful view of the lake. We were much happier there. I was sure my kids would walk to the Clubhouse pool which was now only a 5 minute walk..... but they much preferred the quiet pool which we pretty much had to ourselves.

There is a lot going on at this resort such as activities etc. Although it's a bummer that the main pool will be closed, I'm sure you'll still have a great time.

Have fun!
Jenn

Here now...

Both pools currently open. Main pool is heated, but is much colder than the Island Pool. Not many people at either pool now. Beautiful resort, and very spacious rooms. In a renovated Villa 55 which is quite convenient and close the main pool. Just had to unplug my phone (timeshare people keep calling... lol...). Anyways, having a great time... this is a wonderful resort!

Thank you for posting while on vacation! If you could recommend a building for when the main pool is closed, I'd sure appreciate it! We have 3 kids that will want to swim in the island pool.

Thanks! :)

We were there a few weeks ago and were offered build 66, which is just a short walk over the bridge to the island pool. Unfortunately, the island pool was closed, so we were given another build, but I would have liked 66's location.

Island Pool is great. There is a waterfall coming in, and it is warm. There is also an area where you can do laps. Also, a separate fountain pool and a jacuzzi pool. From looking at the map, it looks like Buildings 66 and 65 are the closest to the actual Island pool where you can walk over a bridge to get to it (64, 67, or 73 are the next closest ones on that side). However, you are further from the Marketplace, Pizza Hut and Restaurant. However, you could probably walk to the Activities Centre - 5 minutes. If you stay at Buildings 52 and 53, you have to go through the Main Pool, in order to access the Island Pool (a short walk - from the main pool about 2 minutes max). However, that would be close to the renos which I'm not sure would be noisy or not. There is a boat that is at the main pool which takes you across to the activities centre.

Let me know if you have anymore questions! Very lovely resort and HUGE 2 bedroom units.
