We are going next week to Disney and would like to extend our vacation by one day (we rented an offsite house that is not available for that last day). We can get a free room there with our marriott rewards. Anyone stayed there?

We just got back from a stay at one of the Marriott timeshares on the property. We enjoyed our stay. The Marriott World Center has a huge feature pool with a waterfall and a slide.

Stayed there many times. Pros and cons

Pros:

You get it free and it is a terrific resort
the pool is fabulous
the rooms are very nice, especially nice if it overlooks the pool

Cons:

Parking. DIY parking is fairly reasonable, but the lot is quite a hike from the lobby(there is a shuttle!!) , and valet is a tad expensive in my book..

Expensive. It caters to the convention crowd, so drinks are more expensive, the food is more expensive, etc...

Convention crowd. Definately a more adult oriented crowd at the resort. Not to say there are not families there..there are, just not as prevalent.

Is this the Marriott Orlando? Is it walkable to Rainforest Cafe, and Downtown Disney? Also, is there any other Marriott property that would be recommended for a family trip to WDW (We happen to have Marriott rewards and just hoping we can make use of these points.) TIA:goodvibes

The Marriott Orlando is in downtown Orlando, about 15 miles north of Disney. This thread is about the Marriott World Center which is closer to all things Disney, but not walkable to DTD or any of the parks.

It is a great resort, with a terrific pool that kids would love, but it does cater to more of a business crowd. There are plenty of food options at the resort, but on the pricey side.

For families, I am a big fan of Springhill Suites by Marriott and by Residence Inn by Marriott, both of which have properties close to Disney, but not close enough to walk.

we stayed for 4 nights for a conference June 2006 then transfered to the Holiday Inn Nick Hotel. It serves for a conference but if I had to pay I wouldn't stay there. It's a nice hotel for a free night. I would stay using that. With young children we felt a little out of place.

Everyone is right on with their comments. It is a hike to your room if you are at the end of a hall and a forever elevator wait and ride if you are high up.
I am assuming you are going with kids, since you rented a house, so my comments are with that in mind.

We stayed for a few nights and it is a very nice and beautiful hotel but not really the greatest for families. Tried to get a cone for DD's at 9:45pm and ended up having to get the guys in the sports bar to get me 2 sets of 2 scoops and they stuck it in styrafoam containers and as I left to head back to room something got out from the big convention and hundreds of people trying to get on the elevators and by the time I got to our room I had cream, the ice was long gone. It is just so big and really for the conventioneer. They try to do thing for kids down by the pool but it really isn't working. The bars are not very kid friendly. ( Bob Jackson at the River Roost at POR is a kid friendly bar) The pool is very nice and the bar up above is very cool but too expensive. While we were there one of the elevators was having problems and was closing to fast and quickly it closed on me and them an older couple a few floors later. I reported it and it was down for the rest of that day and the next but then they opened it again and I used it like a dummy and I got closed on and it got me pretty good and broke the crystal on my watch and when I told them again they really didn't care and said they would look into it. Also on our check out day, they failed to give us our wake up call and the alarm was broken so we woke late (8:00 am ) and check out took so long we almost missed our plane.

FREE and no other choices, is the only way I would ever stay again. Can you use your points other places? I think you would be happier. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck, YO

I attended a conference in August and stayed here. I am only silver and received one of the non renovated rooms. It was perfectly okay, but certainly nothing special. The property has 1,800 rooms and is HUGE, running back to the room to grab something you forgot is a PITA. The self parking lot is also far and they even run a shuttle to the parking lots.

I had a room with two double beds. The one main concern was it appeared to only be a twin duvet on the beds. Two adults in one of those beds would surely feel short sheeted. (see photos)

My other major gripe was there wasn't a plug in site for a computer. There was no available plug by the desk or in between the beds. I finally found an empty plug behind the chair. Really annoying considering it was a business hotel.

I know this is a late response, but I stayed here for 3 nights for a conference in January 2009 and loved the hotel. Very large, and parking feels like a mile away, but I have no complaints with the rooms, restaurants, pools, or staff. Everything was clean and well-kept, and I would stay again if I had the chance.

We stay here during almost all our trips to Disney. We switch off between the World Center hotel rooms and the surrounding villas depending on how many people we are. This is always our choice location. The food is amazing {there's a great hibachi steakhouse onsite, italian restaurant, american restaurant, steakhouse, etc. The pool is great and the spa is so relaxing. If you are on a high floor you can see the fireworks every night. If you do not like the distance between the parking garage and the main hotel you can valet. There is a shuttle, but we usually walk. It is NOT FAR PEOPLE! It's a large hotel, but feels very personable. The walking distance is not bad at all. We will always continue going back!
