...wasn't profitable for them. Any rumors as to who'll buy it?Any DVC'ers own there?....how will it effect you besides not being able to book Marriott rooms with your points?

At this point, it is more of a corporate strategy. The two entities will still be linked. But now the timeshare division will have separate financial statements and will have to answer to it's own stockholders.

here's the thread discussing the spinoff:

to correct some things:

MVC was profitable, i believe, but it wasn't profitable enough. they are spinning it off as a separate company rather than selling it. the current marriott executive in charge of the timeshare side will still be the CEO of the new company. there will likely be very little visible change in the short term - it may change down the road, but for the near future marriott timeshare owners "will see no change in the branding or quality of their properties, their use of marriott rewards points, or their access to marriott hotels."

Friends of ours are members, and invited us to St Thomas with them in Feb 2009. We had a great trip and the resort / vacation club section was very nice. I dont know the ins and outs of the membership, but the condos we stayed in were very spacious and done well. I enjoyed the resort.
