Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

From what I read, just open the area back up - allow the Chinese Theater to be the icon again. Before it was there, was that whole area still raised a bit like it is now?

I only had one visit pre-hat, so I really don't remember much about the lay out. I do remember thinking that the Chinese Theater was really neat as we walked into the park for the first time. It really is a shame that they covered it up.

I like the idea of moving the hat to the entrance plaza

In 2010, since we did 3 trips, we had a chance to explore DHS more than ever during our August 8 night trip. There were all sorts of nooks and crannies we discovered then.

Looks like a fun night. Love the cowboy pictures. I have never seen that horse. I just love how there are always "new" details to notice.

I thought the story behind the hat was that they needed something to block the theater b/c they no longer had the legal rights to the image or something like that. . Will be interesting to see what happens!

I'm glad you guys had a good meal at Pizza Planet, but every time I've eaten there its been a little blah. DH loves Disney pizza, so I'm sure we'll be back, but I'd rather eat at the backlot express.

I can remember back when the Mickey Water Tower was the DHS ...or should I say MGM park Icon. I can't beleive they will actually take it out, but stranger things have happened.

I have seen the horse in others TR's, but never saw it personally.

What an awesome video. I can't believe the editing that goes into that...and all the planned work they do ahead of time, like sing the words for the video. I would never have the time to get my family to do it. I'm too busy rushing.

We have never really eaten in DHS but have an ADR for Sci-Fi for our Dec trip. I am iffy about it, not sure how it will work out with the kids so I keep toying with the idea of just doing Pizza Planet. I think you just made up my mind for me

Did you register for the HM yet?! I am still on the fence, DH said go for it if I want to do it. We are out of points till Aug 1 so maybe once our bank is full again I can see if any resorts are open and decide. Surprisingly my running has been going really well lately (knock wood) so I am thinking from that standpoint it might be doable!

All caught up -- yes, all 110 pages! Henry just gets cuter and cuter! I love the relaxed pace y'all took on this trip - lots of pool time. We never seem to take advantage of the pool opportunities like we should! Too busy commando touring.....

I love those horse pictures! It's so nice when families really stop and enjoy the little moments. My dh and I are always amazed at how rushed and unhappy people can sometimes seem at the parks-so it was great to see Henry have this sweet little Cowboy moment!

Can you believe I never realized the stars sparkled on the hat until this Feb/March trip! I don't know why I never noticed, but it was very neat! Rumor says they may just move the hat to the entrance plaza - I think it would work great there!

I think sparkly things just attract me easily is why I noticed them lol! The Hat would look good there.. so long as they keep it and the stars I shall be happy

I forgot to say before as well those pizza's from pizza planet look yummy! I so wanna eat there now!

This was the first time I have seen one of their videos and WOW I am all teary eyed. The other families joining in on the danceing is what really got me. Where else does this happen???? Only Disney.

Weird timing: I am rearranging my drawers and when I went through the "Disney Drawer" I noticed an old shirt (before AK) with the icons and the one for MGM was the Earful Tower.

I ate at Pizza Planet on our last trip in June....and it was the WORST wait ever I think I waited at least 30 mins in line....it was sweltering HOT in there and everything moved so slow
It was good, though, and I hope to actually get to enjoy the experience on another trip. I just wanted to get the food and get out of there---it was THAT crazy!

oh yeah---that picture of Henry on the pony is so cute. I saw it on our last trip, but no photopass photographer was there.

Oh my word! 30 minutes in line?! That would be horrible! I find those queue lines, after you order, to be so narrow too-I would feel trapped!

It really is a beautiful building! I would welcome the change! The hat in the entrance area would be really cool to see coming up via boat or bus too.

So that horse has been around a lot longer than I thought! I wonder why they only bring it out from time to time? Who knows!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't seen the horse! At first I thought it was new, but not at all! At least it isn't always there and it took this long for me to notice! LOL

The legal rights story is just a tale - but it's a very common one! Thankfully, it's not true. It will be really interesting to see what happens with it. One poster (who is a legit source) said the hat was only made to stand 10-11 years, and I believe it's been standing for 11. So if they move it, it will have to be either re-built or re-enforced somehow..... We'll see! I'd welcome the change, but it wouldn't bother me if the hat stayed and all this that I've been reading is just made up too!

He misses your family a ton. He told me that while I was hanging out with him. Especially Chelsea. He realizes she has grown up a bit and she doesn't quite have the eyes for him that she once did, but he is still smitten. I hope you get to have a visit with him soon!

I've never eaten at the Backlot Express! It seems to be the most popular CS, but the menu hasn't ever appealed to me. I have to try it at some point though!

It seems so strange to me, having only been going to Disney since 2006, for the Earful Tower to be the icon, since it's not located anywhere near the front of the park. But I guess the theater was the 'wienie' and the tower was the icon. Still weird to me though!

I know! That must take a LOT of time to plan/edit. I think their last video (the 1st one) was just a spur of the moment thing. He got the idea in the airport and found the lyrics to the song, and planned it on the plane ride down. LOL This one I'm sure was much more planned. I really like the editing on it!

Sci Fi is great though! Their burgers, onion rings and shakes are YUMMY. Plus, it's very cool to eat in a car. Pizza Planet is fun, and the pizza is decent, but it's not anything extra cool. (Though, cheaper! )

No, I haven't registered yet - I'm still a bit on the fence about it. And, fundage is short right now, so I can't justify the fees yet. My running....what running???

We are out of points as well, and we don't get more until November. I really haven't even thought much about the February trip though. Ideally I would like the VWL or BCV, but fat chance on either of those with a 3 month notice!!

I'm impressed!!! The relaxed approach to the trip was nice....but, I got antsy our second week. You'll see how I dragged Joe around later! The first week was "his trip" the second week was mine!

While I like to get in as much as possible, I agree! It's important to have those little moments - and that is what makes the best memories sometimes! We often linger in gift shops, letting Henry browse and play - we stop and look at the ducks, we stop for pictures - so we don't get in as much as some families, but it works for us! Joe would do it all even slower if I allowed for it.

Same with me! On our Agent Training next month there are mornings we have to be up and dressed by 7 AM. Yuck. I've been making myself wake up at 5, because I need more time to get things done, but I'm not out of my PJs until 8:30 or 9!
