Has anyone here tried to get a marriage certificate after their wedding? By this I mean, something other than the amalgamated sheet that lists application/license/certificate. Is it possible to get a regular marriage certificate?
I tried sending you a pm, but my post count is too low apparently, so I'll reply to it here.
To answer your question, the Marriage Certificate from Vital Statistics is actually different as to the "Application to Marry" copy you would have received from the County Court. It is an actual certificate of marriage, with the state seal on it, with watermarks and so on. It was only $5.00 USD and took about two weeks to receive by mail.
I went to my local Drivers and Vehicles License office and they would not accept either the Application to Marry or the Marriage Certificate...this of course lead to much frustration where I was ready to go to my MPP to fix this ridiculous problem. But I work in a different city and I tried there and sure enough, they took it. They were somewhat hesitant, but said "just sign here with your new name".
Good luck with it, and please do not hesitate to msg me again if you have any further questions. I was super excited to see that others in Ontario had the same problem (unfortunately for all of us). I'm more than happy to help.
...and Congrats on your wedding! Hope it was everything you imagined it would be and more.
