Market Day - school fundraiser

We love market day! I start going through withdrawals during the summer months. We always get the steaks and chicken. There's just too much to list. It may be expensive but its for your school. The orange juice makes for a quick breakfast drink. Order it you won't be dissappointed. :surfweb:

Thanks for all the info everyone! We are going to try a few things (I have to buy at least $35 worth to get some free chicken steaks.) I definitely have to order those apple things but I haven't made up my mind on others things to order yet.

I know there are a lot of moms on this board, so I need some help. DD got a letter inviting her to be in the Student to Student program (Dwight Eisenhower). They go to Alaska and the Yukon for 21 days! She is only 10 and in 5th grade, we live in Ohio so it's not like it's really close. My first response was NO, but then she has been researching Alaska and wants to go. She has never been away from home for more than a night. Has anyone's kids done this? The informational meeting is scheduled during our trip to WDW! I would think differently if she were older, my friend said they probably only get invited once, although she has never heard of it either.

ooh thanks for the info my dd school did it all last year and I never ordered bc I was not sure if we would like it or the food quality.
Great to know I will try it this year.

A 10 year old away for 21 days in the Yukon, in my opinion it's not good idea. She's only 10 - I'm sure many more travel opportunities will come her way as she gets older.

I was so surprised to find this thread today. I have also been a Market Day customer for many years both in Texas until our school stopped the program and now in Maryland where my school participates.

I also happen to be the chairperson for our school which is a job that I am starting on the 4th year on.

Many have told you some of the best products so I won't tell you those. I will tell you while it is very similar to Schwann's and even has some of the same items. Schwann's is not a school fundraiser. Each of the last 3 years our school has earned from $4000-$7000 dollars. I view it as a fairly painless fundraiser because my family has to eat anyway. Some items are a bit more than they would be in the stores, but many items I have found are actually cheaper even than at Sam's and Costco. You would have to do your own homework about which things you choose to buy where or if that really matters. For me I figure it averages out in the long run to what I would pay at a regular store or warehouse store and my school gets some money.

The school gets 10%-20% back for the entire sale, so the more people that order the higher % the school receives. Our group actually consists of 2 elementary schools and middle school so we routinely get the 20% profit level, then each school gets their portion of the 20% based on the customers at their school.

For me the Breakfast items can't be beat. Especially the French Toast Sticks and Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls. They are easy to fix in the microwave so even my youngest when he was in Kindergarten could do his own breakfast. I am also completely sold on Chocolate chocolate chip puddin cakes and they have the best French Silk pie on the market IMO.

If anyone wants to know more you can visit the Market Day website or I will try to answer your questions as I am very familiar with most aspects of the program. I really should be a Sales Rep.

Mmmm...Market Day! I LOVE LOVE LOVE their stuff! I'm very fortunate because there is actually a Market Day store in the city I live in! Their meats are my favorites! Late last spring I was told I had gestational diabetes while preggo with DD. I had to go on a low glycemic diet for the rest of my pg (12 weeks). Thanks to Market Day and our grill I ate like a QUEEN and didn't miss the carbs at all! I also love their veggies and pastas for quick meals for DD and DS. Market Day gets 2 thumbs up from me!

I've heard about Market Day before and sometimes even came close to ordering, but just never had.
B/c of this thread I got online and found out the local school does it (we homeschool, so I don't keep up on what their fundraisers are)
Of course, I found this out at 11:10 am and their deadline for the next order was NOON!!!

ACK!!
So I ordered....the breakfast pizzas (dh likes that kinda thing,) the cinnamon apples, the Goldfish grahams (ds had those at VBS and loved them and we've been unable to find them in the real world,) corn and tiny peas. B/c my total was $26, we got free ChicNSteakes.

I'll pick them up next Thursday and may go order more after that. :)

Thx for all the comments about it. I can't believe how many glowing reports there are for Market Day!!! :)

I  Market Day! My mom first started buying M.D. 20 years ago and then I started (long distance...3 hours via Mom) when I got married. We now buy through a parochial school here in our town. Unfortunately OUR school doesn't participate; I wish they did. The school makes $$$$$$$$$!

All of the food is excellent quality and I think it costs WAY less than Schwanns. It is also less $$ than the grocery stores and better quality...name brands. More than 1/2 our freezer is Market Day. I don't think there is anything we've gotten that we haven't loved.

Go for it! You'll be doing yourself and the school a huge favor! :cheer2:

Ok, in my son's first four days of Kindergarten, he has come home wth 3 (yes - 3) fundraising things. One of the fundraisers is Market Day foods. This looks alot like Schwan's type stuff. Has anyone ever ordered from this Market Day? Is their stuff any good? Is there something in particular that you really like? They have a money back guarantee but I hate to spend this kind of $$$ if the food is lousy!

Does your son go to my son's school??? LOL :rotfl: Sounds very familiar (hit the parents with fundraising on the first week of school)

We do Market Day at our school. We just started it this past year. The food is pricey, but what I've purchased has been good. I don't think it's worth what you pay for it, but it IS a fundraiser, so I always have to keep that in mind.

I've had the breakfast casserole, the breakfast quesadillas, and the honey bbq chicken tenders. All good.

HTH's!

My DS 11 got the same letter in the mail this week. He received another letter last year to travel abroad with the same organization. I don't know how they get the kids' names, but surely this is a mass mailing type of thing. Alaska sounds great, but there is no way in heck that my 11 year old is going there without my dh and I!! When he's in high school, maybe. But not in 6th grade!

Just my 2c.

I loved Market Days! When we moved to Florida, I asked the PTA prez if they'd consider doing it.

We never had a dud in three years of buying. Best part was that we could do our ordering online. Our favorite was getting Pizzeria Uno pizzas and keeping those in the freezer. Yum!

This year, I love the new VP-her fundraising idea is Honeybaked Ham in November. Our Thanksgiving tradition is a Honeybaked Ham, since DH doesn't like turkey.

I'm intrigued... there is a school not too far from me that participates but I have a dumb question... I assume I have to go there to pick up the orders? What if I can't get there on pick up day....? Do they have more than one pick up day??

Yes you do have to go pick up your order. As far as not making it during the pick up window that would depend on the school. I would contact the chairperson via the school or through Market Day and let them know you may not be able to make pickup. I am a chairperson so at my school we have a freezer that if we know someone isn't coming or may not make it we put their items in the freezer as soon as we get a chance. We do ask people to prepay either by dropping/mailing a check or paying by CC online. Then we arrange a convenient time for the customer to pick up their order.

I enjoy Market Day - some of the items are a little more expensive than what I'd pay at the grocery, but it's an easy way to give back to the school. I prefer Market Day to many of the other fundraisers out there.

We like: popcorn chicken, chick'n steaks (individually packaged chicken breast), Tropicana OJ singles, occasionally they will have Uno's frozen pizza, and if they're on sale I get the quaker chewy bars.

I forgot - we LOVE the biscuit dough, too. It's made by Rich's or another "name brand" company. I think that the same applies to most of the Market Day products, they are made by a familiar brand for Market Day.

Hi,
We've been using Market Day for about 13 years and have been pretty happy with them. In our area they also deliver for a small fee. :) They are really good people who care about what they are doing. We do not eat as many of the prepared foods as we used to, like chicken nuggets, but still find a nice variety.

These are the products we have enjoyed over the years:

chicken steaks - excellent for Atkins and SouthBeach
breaded chicken breast patties
chicken nuggets - ok, we just don't eat these things anymore
baby back ribs - these are awesome!
bone-in pork chops
deli-style hot dogs - husband loves these
filet of sirloin
salmon
bosco breadsticks - yummy!!! great after school snack
breaded mozerella sticks - great after school snack
egg rolls
Italian Dipper - good after school snack
bagel dogs - yummy
mini pizza bagels - ok
lasagna roll-ups
cheese ravioli
chicken pot pie
stuffed shells
lasagna
apple slices
garlic bread slices - daughter likes these. I don't.
frozen biscuit dough
quick n crispy shoe string fries
breakfast bundles - yummy! greasy, but yummy!
chocolate chip mini pancakes - not like homemade, but still good
gourmet cinnamon rolls - not like cinnabon, but still good
goldfish crackers
pretzels
pudding
pudding cakes
Quaker Oats bars
string cheese - great for Atkins
apple blossoms
all the fruit pies
all the cheesecakes
carrot cakes
milk shakes (not sure if they still have them)
Unos pizza
single serve beverages like oj and Gatorade were nice and convenient

Notes:
We used to like the cheese pizzas until we thought they changed the sauce about a year ago. We don't like them anymore so stopped ordering them. We also did not like the 5 stone fired cheese pizza. We did not like the soups.
They used to have sausage biscuits, without the egg, that were terrific. I don't see those anymore.

I do see some new products that I am going to try, like the cheese bread... looks yummy.

We also love Market Day. My son switched schools this year and his new school doesnt participate so I am ordering through his old school. We love love love the chicken steaks. They are individually wrapped and are trimmed so nicely so you dont have alot of prep work. Also, love the toasted ravioli, mac n cheese, vegetable fried rice, bagelers, and lots more.

PS - Just wondering if anyone has actually worked for Market Day. I looked at their job opportunities and they have some sales positions in my area that you can work from home. It is commission based. Just curious if anyone has actually done this and how the pay works and the amount of time required.

Does Market Day have much in the way of non-processed foods? Anyone know if the plain meats frozen veggies and fruits have any additives? We shy away from items like French toast sticks and pre-filled bagels and such - I wonder if there's much we would enjoy. Hmmm.....

Many of the meats and most of the vegtables are just plain. Unless it states that they are breaded, marinated, or have some type of sauce they are just plain. They also have things like colby jack cheese sticks, string cheese etc. that are just plain.
