this was posted over at YDF and I had never heard of it... I did a search and found that it is largely an East Coast thing.

has anyone done this before for your school? How does it work? It seems a lot like Schwanns but maybe Im wrong?

Info please?

I live on the east coast but have never heard of a market day.

Our elementary school did this, they probably still do but my kids are now in college and in HS.

I ocassionally ordered from Market Day. Price savings were okay. They did offer some nice food products.

I do know that the PTA earned fairly decent profits from the monthly sales.

I order from the all the time.Even before my kids were in school. The school gets a percentage I don't know how much though. I am hooked on a few of there things.

Our school had this for several years and much to my chagrin stopped! :( I have since found Schwans and like the fact that they deliver.

The foods and quality are very similar. My whole family loved Market Day and liked the fact that it helped the school.

Maybe it's a Midwest thing, ha, because they're all over here.

My parents wouldn't order from them because it was mostly unhealthy food (or at least when I was a kid- I know now they offer some "heart-healthy" options) like french toast sticks, pizza rolls, soup, basically food that's frozen and fast to make for snacktime or dinner. I think some of it was also things you could pack in your kid's lunch (string cheese, fruit dishes, etc).

The reason I'm so familiar with these items- for sports teams at high school they would make us help out on Market Days checking off items, organizing orders, categorizing the food, etc. You can only see so many containers of Italian Wedding Soup or boxes of ChicNSteakes before you start remembering them...

The school PTA that I teach at uses Market Day for a fund raiser. Theynget 10% of the sales per month. I love the products and use a lot of them. I really like the lemon herb chicken breasts...they come indivdually wrapped and frozen. All I have to do is take out as many as I need and pop them in the oven. They also have a chicken crock pot dinner that is very good, too!

The French Dip is awesome. You get two dinners out of it. Quick and easy! I heard the barbeque chicken fingers are good too. I haven't ordered lately because the school that does it around here is far away.
Try it!

Our elementary is doing fundraising with Schwanns and this year we can even order on the internet. Maybe I'll get it done more often this way :)
