So, we went to Disneyland when I was like 10, and we also went to some sort of aquarium place. I aked my parents whether it was Sea World and they said they didn't think they went that far. They thought it was Marineland or something closer to Disneyland. I've searched a bit but can't find anything. Do you think it really was Sea World? I know there was an orca and some dolfins. :confused3

Marine World Africa USA was up near San Fran in Vallejo - about 5 hrs away from Anaheim. It is now Six Flags Discover Kingdom. Sea World in San Diego is about 2 hrs away. I don't know if there are any other acquariums in the area.

We used to go to Marineland, too, when we were kids. Now it's closed off, and there is nothing there....

But, all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies used that area to film. I actually drove there, but I didn't drive down the cliff since there was a big No Tresspassing sign on the chain fence, and I'm not daring enough. :)

Anyone remember Bubbles the Pilot Whale? You can still see the entrance to the park off the road. The "waterspout" is still there. I'll see if I can dig up those pics I have of it.

Back when I was in high school, there was a Boys Day, where the boys got to go to different businesses for career day. Some of the guys in Marine Biology went to Marineland with the Science teacher. They got to tour backstage, and while there, one of the trainers was pinned down in the tank by an Orca. They were able to bring her up, and three boys from my high school gave her CPR, saving her life. They got life-time memberships to Marineland for that. (Even though it was really only good for another 10 years until the park closed)

Marineland....Now, That is a name from the past. I used to go there when I was a kid and living out in the Pasadena area. Im 36 years old now living in Boston, Ma.

It is kinda funny that I saw this thread, Because I was just thinking about this park not long ago as My fiancee and I have a trip planned for Los Angeles in April.

Atleast, There are others that remember the old park. May it rest in peace.

I have very fond memories of Marineland. I grew up in Redondo Beach, CA, and this place was less than a half hour away.
It was actually a big to do when they closed the park. Marineland owners sold out to land developers with alot of uproar from the environmental communities. They moved the animals out in the middle of the night and I think they lost a few of the animals. Sea World took alot of heat for it, but from what I understand, it was the Marineland people who insisted on it to try to avoid the protesters.

Sad to say.. Even the spout at the entrance is no longer there... They are building homes. A lot of homes there. I was there in '97 for a friends wedding. Then they just tore all of it down..

My favorite part was the Baja Reef. Where you could snorkel with all the fish. We loved going there as we could just go for the day and it did not take forever to get there...
