Well at least one theme park in California is reopening...

(from: sfgate.com)
June 25, 8:30 a.m. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom amusement park in Vallejo is reopening next week without rides, according to a statement released Thursday. The visitor experience will focus on the park's animals, including lions, penguins and dolphins.

The park closed entirely amid the COVID-19 pandemic and will reopen on July 2 as an animals-only experience with various talks from animal care specialists and animal demonstrations at outdoor venues. None of the rides will be operating and the amount of visitors will be kept well below capacity.

C'mon Disneyland... reopen Main Street and the Hub, and we'll stare at the ducks. 😂
Something tells me with that plan they won't have to try too hard to accomplish that.

Interestingly enough, you can still book at some of the hotels for 7/23 and on still as of today. So maybe they are not going to move the hotel opening dates, or they just want more people to continue to try and book and then inform them of changing their reservation dates later

That is very interesting!

They should just change the name back to Marine World Africa USA (the previous park's name prior to being taken over by Six Flags)
I still totally call it that! I live about 15 min away! My kids have no idea what I mean when I say that. LOL

I remember when it was still in Redwood City. Now I feel old.
You think you feel old, I remember going to Marineland as a kid. It was in Palos Verdes and man, I so loved Bubbles the whale. When Marineland closed down, she was moved to SeaWorld. Poor Bubbles; she was captured in the '60s and spent almost all of her life in captivity. At least she was treated well and well loved, I guess.

I had a plastic cup from Marineland for years after they closed. :)

I still call it Marine World. My daughter does too. :)

You are my people :hyper2:

I do too. I remember the water slide seemed so tall as a kid- those stairs!
I call it marine world too... i remember when it was in Redwood City when I was a kid. Now its farther away. I live in San Jose so we grew up with Marine World.

All of these made me laugh so much. I still call it Marine World! And live about 5 minutes from its original location in RWC. I drive on 'Marine World Parkway' all the time! When we were kids my dad worked for KRON 4 and on Mother's Day they'd have 'Media Day' and we all got in for free and had a free lunch in the picnic area. It was always so much fun. As a kid the KTVU Whale of a Time World was always a favorite!!

As some of you may recall, I’m originally from Chicago. The 110-story Sears Tower (the tallest building in the world until about 1998) was renamed Harris Tower in 2014. No true Chicagoan calls it Willis and likely never will. Or at least I won’t :-).

so true. I live in Chicago. It Will always be Sears Tower.:-)

I love seeing the SEARS Tower every time I go to Chicago :)

We’re getting ready to go through that whole ordeal with Miller Park. American Family Insurance bought the naming rights and I don’t know a single Brewers fan that will call it anything other than Miller Park.

I feel dumb. I had no idea it was no longer called the Sears Tower. Now I new piece of knowledge I can share when I go...somewhere, someday.

I recently saw a rerun of "Chicago PD" in which they referenced a bad guy at Willis Tower. I yelled at the screen "SEARS Tower!"

Was born and raised in the Chicago 'burbs too.

Since there were enough posts on this topic to form a thread with a life of its own, I moved these over from the Reopening Speculation thread. Party on!

I have to drive down Marine World Parkway tomorrow, I'll try to remember to take a picture of the lagoon. It's now owned by Oracle.

So many fond memories of Marine World Africa USA in Redwood City! Haven't been to the one in Vallejo in a decade.
