Marine Corps Marathon - October 26, 2008 (NEW PHOTOS!)

Only 27 Days 7 Hours 48 Minutes... and Counting! ARE YOU READY? :cool1: :dance3:

Steve asked me if I am ready.... Hmmm. Tough one. I don't think I am ready today, but I will be when the gun goes off and the rubber meets the road.

I am still working up to the high LR's on the weekend and feeling good enough to do them, and actually having time to do them. :confused3 Example: I was supposed to run 5 on Saturday, 20 on Sunday. I ended up running 10 on Sunday, nothing on Saturday. I didn't have time and I was still recovering from the hard 8 I ran on Friday. Maybe I am too old to do this?

Naaah! :lmao:

Well Folks, I'm crashing this party!!

A good friend of mine registered but is unable to run so I'm going to be her.

Let me state for the record now, and repeat it often, that I am thinking of this as a training run. My plan is to figure out which one of you guys I can hang with for 18-20 miles then stroll on to the finish, collect a medal, drink a beer and feel fine in a day or two.

I am excited. I ran last year's and it was a great race.

Mike--awesome that you'll be there! Is Kathy coming to watch you? Krista will be there with Carter and my DSIS/DBIL.

Pace-wise, I'm nowhere near Howard, so if you're looking for someone to hang with in the 9:00 or sub-9:00 pace, it's not me. I'm going to take this one easier than I had originally hoped (probably around 10:00-10:15 pace) due to the fact that I got in WAY less speed work than I had planned and also because I'm still struggling to lose the 10-15 pounds I gained during Krista's pregnancy (well yes, honey, I think I WILL have some more ice cream with you! :confused3 ) and the extra pounding on the road I've noticed is taking its toll on the legs.

So, Howard, I will say again--I'll wish you luck at the start and I'll catch up with you after the race. Not a chance in $&*@ I'll be able to hang with you on the course!

Steve

Steve~ I am not sure what pace I'll be able to hold for a marathon. I held the 8:25 for the PDR last week, but this will be different. At the end of the PDR, I couldn't have run another one with anything close to that pace.

So, I am hoping for a PR, besting my 4:41:03. However, I am hoping to come in somewhere around 4:20. According to the Pace Band website, that looks like a 9:54 pace overall for the 26.2 miles. I think that is manageable. Of course, that is easy to say sitting here in a rocking chair. :rotfl:

We'll see how I do and if I can keep it up for all those miles. I will be giving it my best shot, no doubt.

I am so looking forward to meeting Carter. Uncle Howard needs a squeezy hug. How 'bout those Steelers! (Not pretty, but it's one more for the WIN column)

Denny~ I still have to get a 20 in... not looking forward to it. Enjoy the well earned taper!

We'll talk soon about getting together at the Expo and make dinner plans, etc.

Howard

Kudos, Denny, on getting the 20 miler knocked out! Like Howard, I still have mine hanging over my head. I'm heading out for it this Saturday morning. Somehow I always dread that 20 miler. 16--fine. 18--ok. 20--NOooooooo!!!!!! Don't know why that is. I can't wait to get this monkey off my back!

Can't wait to see all you guys in 18 days! :)

Steve

Steve and Krista, it'll be great to see both of you also (along with the young progeny):grouphug:

Do you have a plan to meet up before the race starts? I'd love to see you guys and cheer on the WISH team together.:cheer2:
Last year I was able to see Mike 5 times on the course (almost 6 - but I missed him cross the finish line by less than a minute) They have changed the course this year and I'm not sure of my route.
Let me know if anyone wants to meet up Sunday morning.

Kathy
