We are going to be there for Mardi Gras next year. Has any one else been there for Mardi Gras? I know they have a special parade at POR but is there anything else going on in the resort? Does it really make the parks that much busier?

Hi Tinks, we did mardi gras this easter and having not done it before we were unsure what to expect but we really enjoyed it.
There is a parade universal studios around the mel's diner area which can only be described as a rugby scrum when they throw the bead necklaces from the floats.:rotfl2:
There is also a series of concerts every Saturday night and selected other night, when we were there it was the last night for this year and the concert was KC and the Sunshine Band. With regards to the crowds we didn't find the parks that much busier during the day but by about 7.30 the crowds were starting to pick up ready to stae out there place for the parade at 9.

Hopefully this helps if you have anymore questions just ask away!!!

We have been during Mardi Gras. As others have said, Universal has special Mardi Gras events (parades and concerts) but Disney doesn't do anything special at the parks for Mardi Gras.

I was able to find some info on Mousesavers about the parade at Port Orleans. It only happens on one specific day, though, so good timing if you're there for it :thumbsup2

Mardi Gras
A little-known event on Mardi Gras (which in 2013 will be February 12) is the mini-parade through Disney's Port Orleans Resort. Several departments of the resort build floats on golf carts. The floats are judged and then parade through the grounds. During the parade they throw New Orleans-style trinkets (beads, candy, doubloons) to the guests who line up to watch. If you will be at Port Orleans on Mardi Gras, be sure to ask at the front desk when this event will take place.

Hello thank you we don't plan to be in the parks late as we have DD who will only be 23 months at the time! Also only plan to do Disney as we won't have car and will be relyin on the disney buses! I hope it doesn't make it much busier! Xx
