Does anyone have any tips for seeing the Mardi Gras concerts? I know we have to skip the parade, but if we get there three hours beforehand is that enough time to get a seat on the grass?

Going spring break :scared: ... Phillip Phillips... March 28th.

Any tips would be appreciated ... where to sit...what time to get there...how to avoid being squashed to death... etc

i would really enjoy seeing phillip phillip concert!

not sure how popular he is with the crowds.
have you done a search to see how the crowds were in the past for him at MG?

hope someone will come along and give you an idea of how far in advance you should be there to get a place to sit down.
once the concert begins, everyone will be standing for the entire performance.

If you want to be toward the front, there will be a holding area that will then open into the concert area after sound check has been completed. This is typically located near the entrance to the HRRR attraction, but check with an Events Team Member (they'll be dressed in light yellow polo shirts) for the exact location/procedure.

Based on your post, I get the impression that you expect to be able to sit during the show. Please note that while you will be permitted to sit prior to the show, as the concert area fills you will be required to stand and remain standing for the concert.

As far as not being "squashed to death", I'm afraid that is kind of a given for a general admission style of concert venue like this. For popular artists, the concert area will be very full and you'll likely be shoulder to shoulder with the people around you. To maximize your personal space, you can try to find a spot along one of the bike racks that line the walkways. This might give you a bit more room if the Team Members are able to keep the walkways clear/moving.

If you want to see the concert and catch beads at the parade it is easy, you just won't be right upfront at the stage. We stand right across the street from Monsters cafe which is at the street side of the music plaza where the concert is held. You can enjoy the parade and then turn around and catch the concert. You get the best of both worlds unless you are die hard for the concert only.

Also there is normally 15 minutes from parade end to concert. If it's a popular concert it might be hard to get to that area if you are not close due to exiting crowds. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips! I know we won't be able to sit for the concert, but was talking more about the couple of hours before it actually starts. Standing near the bike racks might be the thing for me. I'm short and need to be able to see out or I'll start feeling claustrophobic. I think for this one we will have to get there early as it is important to my daughter to be close to the front. Oh, the things we will do for our children!
:thanks:

Another option if you don't care about being up front is to purchase some food at Monsters Cafe @ 4pm or so, and find seats at one of the outside tables, you can stay there for the parade and the concert if you want, and that way you CAN sit.
