Marching Our Way to a Healthy Lifestyle ~ March 2016 WISH Challenge

THANK YOU! Slowly but surely I am improving my strength and speed with each race. I'm hoping to get to a sub 2:45 by October so I can get into a good corral for the runDisney challenges next year. I liked the 3:15 proof of time better but there's inconsistencies with how these are being presented. Wine and Dine says 2:45, yet Avengers says 3:15. It's hard to determine what is accurate.

Have you considered a 10k for POT? You could be much faster at that distance. My PR for a half is 2:24, which is 11 min/mile. My PR for a 10k is 59:49 which is 9:38 mile. Huge minute per mile difference. By using the 10k, the prediction calculator nets me a 2:13 half, that 2:13 is a huge difference corral wise from the 2:24. So, if you think you can get the 10k done significantly faster, I'd consider finding one of those for the fall if you can find a free weekend - I know you have a pretty packed schedule:)

Question of the Day - March 14
What do you do to make yourself feel like a princess or prince? How do you reward yourself when you reach milestones or want to celebrate progress towards your goal? Do you have an “ultimate reward” in mind for when you reach your goal weight?

I love to spoil myself, so I'll have spa days when I'm able. I'm definitely overdue for a massage so one of these weekends where I am not racing.... I'll have to make an appointment and reward myself for all of the hard work I'm doing.

While I've already reached my goal weight, I've decided to set myself a new goal: Get to the 2:44 half marathon time no later than November 1. The requirements for runDisney are changing from a 3:15 proof of time to a 2:45 - which seems so far away at the present moment. But I am going to keep training and trying to get there. And when I do make it I'm going to celebrate in a big way. (Don't know yet what I want to do for a reward -- ideas?)

I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS VERY THING EARLIER TODAY! :D I'd just need a 1:14 10K, which is only 8 minutes off from my current 10K time that I've done in practice races. So far I have two 10K races planned: May 7 for Tink and there's one in October in Vancouver through RNR. Perhaps I can find a local race that is on a flat, fast course that does professional chip timing. I just need something to get me to the better corral line ups... Time to start looking at the Active site to find a 10K race that meets these needs.

I have a lot of trouble finding 10ks on Active, not sure if you have better luck in your area. But, if I use runningintheusa.com, I find tons:) Most are chip timed, so it is a great resource. Good luck!

So proud of everyone's reports this week!! Those numbers look AWESOMEEEEE!!! I know my scale didn't move in the direction I wanted it to this week so I pulled a @pjlla and opted out of checking in this time. Lol.

Today's QOTD - I don't really have any set rewards or anything, though I am excited about getting new clothes when I get that far. Target has some really cute spring/summer stuff out right now and I absolutely hated myself this morning because it's all stuff I could fit into in October but wouldn't even try on now. Boo. But instead of letting it get me down, I'm using that as motivation to get my butt in gear. Hopefully there's a good payout!

I'm coincidentally pampering myself a little this week - I went tanning this morning (yes, I do know all of the reasons why I shouldn't. I managed a tanning salon for a couple of years and have often been accused of selling cancer. But it's the literal only thing I've found that calms my acne down, and the vitamin D is wonderful, and I don't do it frequently) and then treated myself to a drink from Starbucks (found a gift card with money on it! Couldn't pass that up!)... Ran a couple of errands, got a third coat of polyurethane on my desk top, and am now trying to knock out a ton of orders and other to-dos before my ADD kicks in... I can feel it coming soon.

Wednesday I'm going to get a MUCH needed hair cut (I usually have my hair really layered, but because the spot where I usually part my hair has thinned so much and I'm so self-conscious of it, I've started parting it on the opposite side, so all the layers are underneath now and for the last 3 months I've looked like Hagrid. Lol) so yay!

We survived the crazy weather last night and now the sun is out and it is absolutely GORGEOUS. Going to try to get in an outside walk sometime today. Got my Fitbit back on the right day/time so hopefully I'll be better about wearing it now.

I'm around today if anyone feels chatty!

looks like you all are having a grand time and a great month! thanks @SarahDisney for such a fab hostess job!!

i'm having a rough month, I was gone the beginning and my Addison's is really flared. i'm going to the doc tomorrow and have a phone appt with my specialist tonight, so hope to get back in balance over the next couple of weeks. i'm sorry i'm out this month, i'll be away the first of April but joining up when I return! hugs to all ---

Is it to late to join? My name is Sarah Beth and I am 5'2 181.0 pounds. My goal for March is to lose 5 pounds. I hope to do this by eating better (weight watchers) and exercising regularly.

Welcome! It's never ever too late to join! Check out the first few posts on page 1 if you haven't already and feel free to answer the question of the day for today! Looking forward to getting to know you better, @Swilcox ! :welcome:

I'm guessing we'll see 2:45 in Avengers (sorry, Super Heroes) registration, and they just haven't changed it yet. I kinda get it at DL, where there are fewer corrals and it just moves from 1-2 corrals without POT to 2-3 without POT, but with WDW, where there are 15-20 corrals, they're going to end up with 7-8 corrals of people without POT, and how can they organize that?
Oh well, we'll see what happens when registration opens.

Agreed. I've planned the Star Wars challenges, Glass Slipper, and Pixie Dust for next year. I've just managed to cross the 3:15 threshold and now they're changing it. LOL. This is why I'm shifting to the 2:45 goal - or a 1:14 10K. No time like now to try to get faster--- or just hang out in the back :)

A little thing I like to do to pamper myself is to soak in a long hot bath with a glass of wine and a good book. We are in the middle of remodeling a house so I haven't had a chance to do it lately but we just bought a large jetted tub with a built in heater. I can't wait till its ready!

When I reach a milestone I reward myself with a glass bottle of root beer. My late Grandmother use to buy them for me when I was little. They are expensive so buying them is a treat. The taste always reminds me of fun times at her house.

I have two over all goals. The first is to lose 51-71 pounds. That would put my weight between 130-110 pounds. I know that this is going to be a long road but I am taking it 5 pounds at a time. My second goal is to complete the Dopey RunDisney Challenge. I'm new to running but my husband has been running for years and loves it. I'm hoping this is something we can do together. It will most likely be years before I can reach this goal but I know that if I start small I'll get there one day.

My Ultimate Reward is big but my over all goals are big too. If I complete both goals my husband and I are going to renew our vows in Disney World. We have plans to renew our vows anyway but if I can do all that I am setting out to do we will spend the money to go all out with a Disney World Wedding.

I took pictures of everything I fixed this weekend (it's kind of a hobby) but this was the prettiest, and one of my all time favorites - Caprese Salad. I have about 101 different ways I can present it and have a Pinterest board dedicated to it - the only place I've ever had it that I like better than what I make myself is Flying Fish. This is actually on the small size, that's just a saucer. I reduced the amount of mozzarella to make it point friendly and with about 1t olive oil and 1t balsamic I figured it out to be 4 SP. It was yummy... can't wait till summer when the tomatoes start coming out of the garden.

Question of the Day – Monday, March 14th:

Hmmm... Small rewards... I honestly don't have any and I really should! My big reward is a full wardrobe makeover! I'm already in need of new jeans as both my pairs no longer stay up without a belt! I haven't lost weight but I'm certainly losing inches!

I downloaded a new app called Plant Nanny and it's awesome! It's a water tracker set up as a cute game! I highly suggest it!

So cute! just downloaded it now, thanks for the suggestion!

I'm terrible with rewards. They really are great motivation for me, but I can't think of rewards that aren't either beyond my financial means right now or very high in calories (I love my 400 calorie CBTL lattes). I've tried more basic things like allowing myself to sleep in one morning or rewarding myself with a trip to the mall (even if I don't buy anything), but those don't seem to help me much.
I think my ultimate reward when I get to my goal weight is going to be a big SoCal trip (a week in LA and a week in DL) whether or not I can afford it. I was going to do this for my 30th birthday, but some financial considerations cancelled that trip idea. Now I just have to start losing weight instead of gaining.

I love to spoil myself, so I'll have spa days when I'm able. I'm definitely overdue for a massage so one of these weekends where I am not racing.... I'll have to make an appointment and reward myself for all of the hard work I'm doing.

You definitely deserve a massage!

I hope you can reach this goal! This new 2:45 thing is definitely making me nervous too - I know I can get a POT for a 3:15 half, but I'm more worried about a 2:45. But we'll see if this change is permanent or just something runDisney is testing and will give up on soon.
Hopefully you will come up with a great reward. How about a weekend away at a spa or something like that? Something you know you love, but maybe more than you would normally do.

New clothes are always fun! Every good princess needs some beautiful new dresses! (and tops and pants and skirts)

Wow, you got a lot done today. Awesome!!

I can't wait to see pictures of the new haircut on Wednesday!

I'm sorry to hear this, and I hope your doctors can figure out something to help you.
We miss you this month, but I hope to see you back (and feeling better) in April!

My toes aren't healing as fast as I thought they would so I haven't been able to do any exercise and it's killing me.

Sending good healing vibes your way :goodvibes:
Can you do any upper body or seated exercises that are easier on your foot?

Is it to late to join? I am 5'2 181.0 pounds. My goal for March is to lose 5 pounds. I hope to do this by eating better (weight watchers) and exercising regularly.

It's never to late to join. :welcome: We're happy to have you here, and I'm excited to see you reach your goal!

I love your way of pampering yourself and your milestone rewards! It's always nice when you can do something relaxing or something that brings back good memories!

Awesome goals!
I did the first "half" of Dopey this year (5K & 10K) ... I have such admiration for the people who do all 4 races. Two early wakeups was more than enough for me!

My Ultimate Reward is big but my over all goals are big too. If I complete both goals my husband and I are going to renew our vows in Disney World. We have plans to renew our vows anyway but if I can do all that I am setting out to do we will spend the money to go all out with a Disney World Wedding.

This is an awesome reward. I'm sure a vow renewal at Disney World would be a beautiful experience!

I love a full wardrobe makeover as a reward ... way more fun than doing things in small pieces!

I downloaded a new app called Plant Nanny and it's awesome! It's a water tracker set up as a cute game! I highly suggest it!

Thanks for the recommendation!

I hope you can reach this goal! This new 2:45 thing is definitely making me nervous too - I know I can get a POT for a 3:15 half, but I'm more worried about a 2:45. But we'll see if this change is permanent or just something runDisney is testing and will give up on soon.

It's incredibly inconsistent on the race descriptions. Wine and Dine and Disneyland Half says 2:45, but all other races going into 2017 presently say 3:15. Let's cross our fingers that the 3:15 stays and I can leverage a 1:20 10K race for my proof of time. I don't know why they're changing it. It's got me so nervous and worried. :sad2:

Hopefully you will come up with a great reward. How about a weekend away at a spa or something like that? Something you know you love, but maybe more than you would normally do.

I was actually thinking about a spa day. We have a few local places around here that would be an excellent reward - massage and body scrub? yes please!

Is that the Charge? How is it?

It's the Charge HR. I like it so far honestly, but I haven't used it very much. I had a Fitbit One for a few weeks and i wasn't a fan of it at all and sent it back, so this is already doing better! Haha. Today was the first day I even came close to 10,000 steps, much less exceeded it. :cool1:
