March Break 2008

I was watching A Channel this morning (Barrie area) and saw a little blurb on the ticker "thingie" at the bottom of the screen that said "Simcoe County Board of Ed. is considering blending the March Break with the Easter break". Anyone else hear anything??? Will it be even busier than the typical busy March Break? I would imagine it will be crazy and rates will be higher ... didn't the Toronto board do this a few years ago with a lot of flack from parents? Why oh why are they considering this???

P.s. I even teach in this board ... but do I know anything ... of course not, we would be the last to know Oh and I'm also a parent of two kids in this board ...

I already have the school year calender for my kids in York Region and they have not combined the holiday. I hope they don't do it. I already have a cruise booked and it is the 2nd week of March. Please don't change!!!!!

Kim ... your board is one of the only ones to have firmed up their school calendar for next year. I haven't checked them all, but Peel, Toronto, Simcoe, Trillium, etc have not. I did find an article about it for our board here ... http://www.orilliatoday.com/orilliatoday/article/35685. Hopefully the smaller boards that would have to agree with SCDSB will turn them down due to busing issues. This would cause these boards to spend more money ... lets hope that is enough for them to back off!!!

By the way, do you know something about PrIDE program for gifted student in york region? So far, I know that is a one day in a week withdrawal program for the gifted student (From G.4 to 8) who can still stay in their home school for the rest of 4 days in a week. Any idea about this program? Is it new? How long did it exist?
