March Break 2008???

Does anyone know the Ontario March Break for next March 2008? I haven't got my kids calendar yet and was heading back to WDW for the March Break. I've heard it will be busier next year due to Easter landing on the 23rd of March instead of April. Thanks everyone inadvanced...

Provincial guidelines say that the break for the 2007-2008 school year will be March 10 to 14 which is the week before Easter. But, back in 2004 when the break under the provincial guidelines was the week before Easter, the Toronto District School Board applied to shift the break to have it go right into Good Friday / Easter Monday. Local school boards have to submit their school calendars to the Province by May 1.

We were laughing/talking about this the other day..

I called our regional school board office - Nova Scotia - to find out about starting day in September, dates for christmas, and March break...

And got the same answer as I did when I called this time last year

"What do you need to know so early for??
Planning a trip to Disney or something??"

The TDSB thought they were saving money by changing the March break in 2004 to include the Easter holidays but as it turned out they did not due to bus sharing with the Toronto Catholic District School Board who are in school for Holy week (the week before Easter). At the time the trustees said that they would not be changing the March break to include the Easter holidays ever again. Of course one should "never say never".

Okay so we plan on going back again next year but I'm getting a little nervous with Easter being so close. If I head to WDW on the 5th of March and leave on the 12th will I miss the BUSY BUSY CROWDS??? So that gives us almost 1 1/2 weeks before they come.

Hmmmm - not really. Disney even posts the 2 weeks surrounding Easter to be one of their busiest times. My girlfriend goes tomorrow so I have asked for a report.

I am guessing that most families who do 2 weeks (like ours) would go March break week and stay until Easter weekend (so the kids only miss 4 days of school). Luckily we have decided to go "Disney free" for next year and do an island.

Assume the worst and maybe it won't be too bad??? Or book the cruise - the lineups to see the princesses won't be as bad on the ship!!

Nova Scotia's Break will be March 10-14th.

In my ideal world next year I would LOVE to go in April (no Easter, or spring break crowds to worry about) however, working for the school board I think I'd be pushing my luck asking for 2 additional weeks in April.

That being said, we've decided to go the week before March Break and our March Break. Dates would be February 29 - March 14. I'm hoping we'll be getting out of dodge just in time before all the crazy crowds hit.

This year we went the week of March Break and the week after. Our first week (our March Break) wasn't bad..but the week after (most US spring break) was pretty crazy. Plus all the cheerleading, band and dance championships didn't help.

Well it seems that DH & I will be going March 8-15th next year as that is the NS March Break and I hopefully (fingers crossed) will have a FT teaching position by then and I feel I'd be pushing my luck to ask or a week off (other then March Break!!)

FYI - I also found out that this year the entire state of Florida had March break duirng Ontario's March Break too. It was pretty busy!

UCDSB is set for the 10-14 also. That is not carved in stone yet. There is a bit of talk going on about changing it to fit the Easter thing.

Well were heading for March 5-12 2008 and if between now and when I book the flight I hear worse things then I will change it to the last week in Feb. and the first week in March and just take the kids out of school for the week and 1 day. After Disney we head to in-laws for a week and it won't be busy there in Clearwater like WDW. It was a perfect time this past March and the weather was great. I would hate to go back to Jan/beginning of Feb. again. That would mean the kids would have to be out of school for 2 weeks instead of none. They always take work with them but if I don't have to take them out of school the better. Even this year they only missed 2 days and they took work with them.

I just got an e-mail from the board office stating:

The March Break for 2008 has been set for March 10 – 14 on the Ministry of Ed site.

Sooooo... I'll take as not-quite gospel.

Maryannf obvious the ministry hasn't looked at a calendar for next year. They have the March Break being March 16-20??? That is a Sunday to a Thursday. The Friday being the Good Friday and the following Monday being the Easter Monday. I can't see them only giving the kids and teachers "technically only 4 days off. The union won't allow that!!! I think this will definately be modified and the March Break will be March 10-14 and then the kids will go back for 4 days and then the Easter Break. My kids won't get that whole week off before Easter with them going to a Catholic School... They have mass everyday and then the stations of the cross.

Actually, the ministry website lists March break for the 2007-2008 school year as March 10-14. The 10th is a Monday and the 14 is a Friday. Friday March 21 is Good Friday. I went to Catholic school as did my children and I know that Holy Week is sacred and the kids have to be in school that week.

You are right, I stand corrected. I was looking at the 2008-2009 March Break...
