I received an email yesterday from MarathonFoto telling me that the deadline to order pictures from the marathon is 2/1.

From past experience, is this just a marketing ploy to try an get people to order quicker? Or will my pictures still be available for purchase after 2/1?

Definitely a ploy. If I remember correctly from last year, after the "deadline" is when they start sending out promo codes. My pictures from last year are still available for purchase, so you're fine.

It's a ploy. They have photos from races dating back two years if you know how to look them up right. The only advantage of ordering them now is saving money. This isn't brightroom where if you don't order them in a certain amount of time you'll be paying a big fee to get the photos out of storage just to buy them.

Well, technically it is Brightroom, because the two companies merged. But I agree, it's a ploy. I got a "last chance" e-mail from Marathonfoto in November about the Space Coast marathon almost a year earlier, and yet when I click through on it, the photos are still available. And actually, I can still click on an e-mail link from Brightroom from the 2012 Goofy, and while there is an additional $5 fee at this point, I think that's pretty reasonable for a race that took place over two years ago.

I did purchase the photos from marathonfoto and did see that last years photos were also still available for purchase.

That's interesting, wasn't aware of the merger between brightroom and Marathonfoto. Though it does answer several unanswered questions I had about why runDisney switched photographers! And yeah the 5 dollar fee isn't bad, brightroom used to charge more from what I remember.
