Marathon Weekend

OK. Got the email about the Marathon Weekend. DW even called me from work, saying "lets go, lets go!" LOL DVC saving us $, b/c if we go, it will be our 2nd trip in a 30 day span.....

So anyway, I called MS and booked an OKW studio for 5 nights, 1/5-1/10, for a total of 64 points. I asked about cash, but it was going to be $202 plus tax per night for Fri & Sat , so I went ahead and booked on points.
In reality, though, we'll only stay 3-4 nights, so if we arrive Fri or leave Sun, we'll probably do a value resort on one of the weekend nights. (Most likley, we'll probably be using 36 points doing a Fri value, Sat-Sun-Mon OKW.)

(FWIW, I inquired about BWV Standard, no room at the Inn. No BW Views either.)

But, now I'm wondering if we should spend a few more points and stay at SSR instead?

No, we'll be participating. DW in the 5K and me in the 5K or if I can get my act together, possibly the 1/2.....

I ran the marathon a few years ago. Stayed at Dixie Landings (loved that resort). The bus ride was long and slow to the start the morning of the race. Ran the half marathon last year. Stayed at the Poly (love that resort more). Walked from room to EPCOT monorail, rode monorail to the start. The half finish line was in the parking lot next to Poly, walked back to room in 7 minutes. If you are going to run either race and are staying at DVC, try OKW. A friend on mine stayed at OKW and walked accross the highway to the start line. He said one CM stopped him, but realized it would be more dangerous to send my friend back. He had his race bib and the CM said "go ahead".
It is a great race (half or full). Good luck with training!

I booked a studio at BC for the marathon weekend a couple weeks ago. Had a ressie at SSR but thought BC would be easier to get to after ther 1/2.

Just called back and changed it to a BWV studio. When I first called only 2 of my nights were available, but after a couple of minutes, 2 more nights appreared. Now only waitlisting for Thu 1/5.

I'd rather be able to walk to the starting line than have to wait for a shuttle or cross the highway.

Looks like DW is going to try the 1/2 with me too...... :thewave:

Glad you'll have sompany cruise! FYI - I heard that you can't walk from BWV to start, as the international gateway will not be open. I will be a nice walk from the finish, though.

I'll be wishing you well! We'll be at OKW from 1/5 till 1/12 then to Wilderness Lodge (cash - room) till 1/14, my DH did the full marathon last year (with my niece) after having lost about 160 lbs, now they are running again and doing the half marathon this coming January. There are 8 of us in our travelling group so I figured OKW 2bd is much roomier than BWV where we were last year. A few of my cousins are running the full and half as well, although one might do both!! Good luck to you!!

Looks like we start and end in EPCOT. We have ressies for a BCV studio to make it easier for the family to get into see me finish.

Many people say staying somewhere on the monorail line is the best!

I am staying at OKW, but plan on taking the bus to Epcot. The start line has been moved from where it was last year. With all the traffic and dark last year, I don't want to walk in that mess along a highway.

I thought about BCV but would need to take the marathon bus back to the resort so as not to waste a day's ticket, so I just went with the lesser point cost.

Our waitlist for 1/5 came through in one day.....contemplating going on the waitlist for a BW View.....

A couple of questions: What time does the 1/2 Marathon start? And what would be the best way to the start line if the IG isn't open

I'm doing the Leukemia Society fund raiser "team in training" thing. Good news, I guess I won't have to use my points. Bad news, I don't think I'll be staying DVC!

I "ran" with TNT last year. They had us stay at POFQ. It was fine. I went on a practically empty shuttle to the start, and there were plenty of them - the came frequently. Not to worry! Anyone who ran the full in the past . . . I really think they need to do a better job of entertainment during the second 1/2 - especially for those of us who are on the course for a LONG time! Those miles to WWofS were pure torture!

DW and I are planning on the 08 1/2 we were supposed to go to WDW in Dec 07 so we have pushed it back to Jan 08 so we can do the 1/2 my mother will be joining us so she can watch teh kids in the morning while we are gone. I can't wait we are going to stay at either POP or one of the All Stars for the weekend then we are heading to the cabins or to SSR not sure which yet.
