Marathon Weekend

Hey all! Brand new resale member here. I’m running the marathon, and we knew with closing being after the 7 month mark it would be rough to get anything for the weekend.

But! So far we have a 1BR at the Grand on Saturday night. Then moving to a studio at Bay Lake on Sunday and Monday night.

Ideally, we’d love to get a studio on Friday or Saturday— save some points and only move once. But we are pretty open at this point. I have Pop Century as a backup.

What do you think is going to end up happening? Do I have a chance of getting anything particularly the Friday night of marathon weekend?

The more actual studios that exist at a resort, the better your chances of getting one via waitlist and/or stalking (best to do both). So you probably have a better chance of getting a Resort studio at VGF than a Deluxe studio at VGF; I’m not sure what the comparative numbers of BLT Lake view studios vs. VGF Resort studios are, but those numbers are not hard to find, and your chances are better with whichever one is more numerous. Since you already have the BLT studio, I’d WL/stalk for the same just to reduce the chances of having to move while preparing to run the races at the same time!

Also, don’t rely only on the waitlists. Check yourself as many times a day as you are willing to look. Stalking almost always pays off, especially for single days. If you don’t mind switching an additional time SSR would be my choice for a more sure bet studio.

Awesome- I might change up one of my waitlists. We went with where we’d want to stay more than being strategic.

The advice you've already received is great, and I have nothing to add to it, but I did want to say -- welcome to DVC, and good luck on the marathon! I don't know if you're active in the RunDisney sub-forum on here, but there's a thread about Marathon Weekend, and typically some sort of meet-up before the race.

Hi there @dmcfa2504 , sounds like you already received some great advice but I wanted to say "welcome home" and yeah for marathon weekend!! DH and I will be running only the half in January, along with my brother in law and sister -- we are booked in a 2 bedroom lakeview at the GF (one of our home resorts). We initially were booked in separate resort studios but I canceled those when a 2 bedroom opened up (so someone was able to get studios recently!) I would for SURE keep checking every day as you see inventory change daily it seems!! Best wishes on getting the rooms you want and boy, do we love marathon weekend! Staying on the monorail line for the half and full can't be beat. Enjoy!!!

I am in a situation where I tried modifying my room from a studio to a 2 bedroom lock off. By the time that I was trying to get everything settled, the studio for saturday night was taken so I now have a plane flight for saturday but no room as of yet. Hoping that we can get something waitlisted within the next little bit
