My son and I will be traveling to The World for the 2011 Marathon period. Coming out of the NE, so Philly, Harrisburg, possibly Baltimore. Its been ages since I have flown(talking pre-9/11). Anyone have any thoughts ? Originally I was looking at Wednesday to Sunday. What would be the implications of shifting Thursday to Monday ? TIA !

That was what I did this year. I left after work on Thursday night, went to the expo on Friday, ran the 1/2 on Saturday, went to Epcot on Sunday, and home on Monday. I used 2 vacation days. If you are running the Marathon, you don't want to be on a plane right after the race on Sunday. I would recommend flying home on Monday.

Thanks for the feedback, 2Girls. I won't be running. Leaving that to dad, DSis + DBil. I'll be on kid wrangling duties along with mom. But I was curious as to whether I'd see any price difference flying Wed/Sun vs Thu/Mon. Three vacation days for me no matter how you slice it.

One of the Harrisburg options I looked at today actually has the trip starting on a Dash-8 Turboprop. Talk about an adventure of Indian Jones proportions ! In the end, we may end up heading towards Philly, as sis swears by Southwest.

Honestly, it depends. I would think Thurs. to Monday would be cheaper, but that is a guess. You will just have price out both options.

Mondays can be more expensive because that is when a lot of business travelers head back out as they like to spend the whole weekend at home with the family (my DH did this for 2 years) that being said it depends a lot on the airport. I don't usually see this as the case when we fly out of Baltimore but if we fly out of DCA or National then Mondays are usually about $100 more expensive.

Either way if you can hit the expo on Thursday you will get through it much quicker DH and I went thursday and were done in less than an hr while our friends went friday and it took them well over 2 hours, which is a lot of wasted disney time to pick up a packet.
