Marathon Weekend 2025

SAFD: My user name was just a combination of my two loves; mountains (Colorado Ski girl here) and Disney. So nothing to creative.

My profile is one of my fav disney cosplay. I love my Merida cosplay. My fav disney Princesses are the ones who can fight :)

Here is close of pic of it for just fun.

And my bow is soo cool with it.

To bad I cannot run in this cosplay because the skirt drags on the ground and the bow actually works too. I can't bring the arrows inside conventions for safety reason.

SAFD: Oh man, I joined the boards way back in the early 2000's when I was still in late middle/early high school. Of course at that point in my life, my high school graduation year was the coolest thing going for me, hence the 2007. DHS is the abbreviation for the high school I attended. So now it is a bit lame, but don't want to change it now and lose my message count! My profile pic is of my favorite Disney character :)

I love your avatar! It always makes me smile when I see it. Such a good cosplay.

SAFD: I also love reading about everyone's screen name. Thank you! My screen name is from twenty years ago on a discussion board where I met my husband. At that time, I had just moved to Manhattan and was proud of it. So mine is just my first name and the Manhattan zip code. My husband also uses that same screen name from then. He might chime in to give the story behind his too.

SAFD: Screen name is state and family role as that was the reason I first joined - at that point we had done one or two trips with our then 3 year old - we enjoyed the vacation experience there as new parents and I was getting more into the planning/researching part of WDW. The 14 is a curve ball and pretty random - I’m not a hard core fan but have always followed Nascar to some extent and Tony Stewart was my favorite driver for many years, at the time he was driving the 14 car.

Avatar is the New Year’s Eve midnight MK fireworks show taken from the third floor of the Hawaii longhouse at Poly. It encapsulates many favorite memories in our WDW travels so far - the Polynesian, that specific room type/location, the Seven Seas Lagoon/Vacation Kingdom vibe, fireworks, and MK views. The full package. :smickey: I have since had the good fortune of staying around the MK resorts on several 7/4’s and 12/31’s and there’s just something magical about those special shows/nights.

Great topic by the way, tons of participation!

SAFD: As a comic book kid in the late 70s-early to mid 80s, I loved She-Hulk. Loved her Avengers run, and her Fantastic Four run when she filled in for The Thing, and the Sensational She-Hulk stories too. Jennifer Walters was a petite white woman, weak and meek, but really more fitting in with what society told us to be. She had control over when to hulk out, and she *chose* to be big, strong and green and was sexy and confident that way. As a girl that nobody called petite or meek (I won the phys ed 6th grade wrestling competition, even beating the winner of the boys' competition who was way bigger than me), I was just astounded by that portrayal. It may seem like old hat today, but literally nobody was sending that message back then.

I still love her, and I know the Disney+ series was not everybody's cup of tea. Part of that is that the message isn't nearly as new or unique these days, and before it even aired I wondered how they were going to do it in a modern way. Also part of it is that Marvel Comics was a much bigger tent and there was more room for different kinds of stories. If something wasn't for you, that was fine, you had a whole bunch of other comics to read. I feel like MCU fandom needs everything to be for the core fans, and if it's not, it's going to get trashed.

Anyway, I love She-Hulk and I love running, so that's my avatar!

Edited to add, my first WDW Marathon I wore a home printed She-Hulk t-shirt. Twice on course spectators yelled to me: Go Mrs. Hulk! If you knew my husband, thinking of me as Mrs. Hulk is extra funny. He is more a Bruce Banner type.

someone talk me off the edge - I'm freaking out. 2 months left and I'm struggling. I had a cold for 6 weeks, ran a slow 2.5 hr half in the middle but other than that it has been bad. I lost all conditioning due to the dang cold. eeeeeek.

Somewhat same boat - I had missed some runs one week due to travel in mid October then had something that knocked me out two weeks that I just could not shake. Have gotten in a few runs in recent days that “feel” ok but my heart rates have been sky high, almost alarmingly so. Definitely lost some ground there so feeling like I’ll now be coming from behind in training. Had been feeling pretty on top of things up to that point. Blah.

I feel you man. I've been sidelined for over a week now with a sore back. It has improved but it's not 100% and I'm fearful of going out and re-aggravating it, but on the other hand I'm worried about this being the absolute wrong time to be sidelined going into the peak training weeks. I mean, last year I was never in any danger from the balloon ladies and I'm not necessarily afraid (yet) of getting swept, but I don't want it to be a painful slog either.

Very much in a quandary right now about when to resume training.

I was still more a DC comics guy when I was growing up, and then my MCU was mostly X-men, especially the excellent Chris Clairmont years, so sparse memories of She Hulk. And I say that to say that I really enjoyed the Dis+ She Hulk series and wish they would make more episodes.

Great screen name and avatar, and I think we talked at one of the meetups a couple of years ago.

I just assumed that was Disney High School....

Great cosplay! Really well done. Yeah, you'd need to do a knee-length outfit for wearing during a race.

Again, loving hearing about all the screen names and avatars.

SAFD: Like a few of you, I put very little thought into my screen name or avatar when I first signed up. When "Kerry" (my first name) was taken, I just added my birth year. Mr. Incredible is my favorite Disney character. Hefeweizen is my favorite style of beer, and many runs and races have ended with one; and a few started with one.

But with apologies to @Mr_Incr3dible , I do think I am pretty incredible, at least in my own mind. :cool1:

SAFD: My name was a portion of an old email address I started in the infancy of the internet (mid-90s). My favorite baseball player growing up and at that time was Don Mattingly, whose nickname was Donnie Baseball. His number was 23. Hence the do(nnie)b(ase)ball23. Probably not the best or most pertinent name for me at this juncture, but it's been my name on these boards for nearly 20 years now.

My avatar is a pic of me after completing Dopey in 2022.

If it makes you feel better, I got Covid 2 and half weeks out from my recent marathon. Was totally freaking out that all my fitness would be lost. I just decided to focus on giving my body time to recover and not pushing it before the race. Abandoned all time goals and just decided to have fun. You will be ok! Trust your body and your mind to get you there, and you still have lots of time left in the training cycle!

Add me to the boat of being disappointed in my training plan. I have recoverd-ish from two herniated discs (threw off my maintenance miles before Goofy training started) and now learned I have extensor tendonitis.

Anyone else had this? I seriously though my foot was broken, that's how bad it is

(my bad for not getting it looked at sooner and pushing through the pain)

Oh those long drawn out colds are sometimes a sign of overtraining. The older I get (52) I’ve noticed they usually happen from the overtraining and a Ph imbalance. When I start to feel acidic and lots of indigestion I get sick. Watch the red sauces is my motto.

As for training? My daughter and I went from zero miles to Dopey after signing up in September during Covid. We both had past running history so it helped. And we finished pretty easily together with a great time.

Look… 100% you’ve got this. One mile at a time. Start adding one mile a week for your long runs. You don’t have to run the whole darn thing but get the miles in. If you struggle back it down for a recovery week. Listen to your body.

So hypothetically say:
Nov 17 - 13 miles
24th - 15 miles
Dec 1 - 16 miles
8th - 17 miles
15th - 18 miles
22nd - 19 miles
29th - 20 miles
Then Taper

There’s forgiveness in this schedule if you need a down week. And just a suggestion based on experience.

Follow a clean diet with fresh veggies, fruit, and protein.

You’ve got this 100%. Shut those demons out!

i love this. thank you. thats good advice. i think i just caught my cold at right before a trip to Europe and then the travel caused more problems. i gotta drink more water right now too...thats a huge problem i have.

thank you again

SAFD My screen name came from my must do goal. As a lurker on here from Wine and Dine 2017 through MW 2019 I thought maybe it was time to join the group and embrace the insanity that is running. I quickly decided after my first marathon that I was doing Dopey in 2020 and so took the name and signed up. After that I kept the no avatar ‘D’ until I got home with my Dopey medals for the picture. It’s been that ever since.

SAFD:
Been gone again from the boards for a bit, dealing with some medical stuff so have not been running as much as I would like, made it harder to want to keep up with the boards. But I think I am coming out the other end in a better spot than I thought I was going to be! Thank goodness.

Great day to jump back on the boards though, @camaker great question this week! Really enjoyed reading about everyone’s screen name and avatars! I joined the boards in 2015, but had been lurking on the trip report boards for several years prior. Ran the 2015 Goofy and when I came across the WISH boards and found the race treads it was what finally got me out of lurker status! :)

My screen name has two parts. I have always loved Baloo, my favorite Disney character. But the in MI is really about how at the time we were thinking about moving back to California but finally decided that staying in Michigan was going to be best for our family. So Baloo in MI it became. (My heart will always be in California though). The avatar is a picture of a rock along a local running trail that says “It’s a good day for a run”. I love running past it!
