Marathon Training Thread 11/14-11/21

Let me preface this by saying--I think the pieces are made LARGE...

So here goes...

bought an outfit at Target.
Hot pink shirt--Black pleated flair skirt...

Shirt size--SMALL :Pinkbounc
Skirt size--4 (I was a 12 pre-south beach). :Pinkbounc

Tried on some things at another store which were 8's and mediums and resting loosely on me. Found a size 6 skirt that fit nicely, but wasn't convinced to buy it.

So the 4 isn't "real"--but it is technically correct for that item, so I will wear it proudly (helps on flair skirts)--especially since the waist isn't elastic :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc . I've NEVER been a 4--the lowest size I remember since puberty was a 7. Now why didn't some one teach me to exercise instead of diet--I mean STARVE!

Okay--I celebrated with 2 buttefingers (mini size)--so smack my hands now!!! It's been a tough day with DD2 running a fever all day. But with that 4--I am enticed to behave.

I think post-race I am going to jumpstart weightloss again with the South Beach diet to get rid of a little bit of flab around my tummy/tushy.

Okay, I'm done!

Enjoy your cruise, Cheryl!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!
I'll probably have a quick shower before the race if only to wake up. My hair doesn't look great at the best of times, but I've seen the pictures from our Niagara 1/2 marathon and trust me - Bev said it best.

WHAT - you must be kidding!! You are an athelete crossing that finish line after a "mere" 13.1 miles - YOU ARE SUPPOSE to look a MESS

Cheryl - have an awesome cruise!
Lisa - congratulations on the smaller sizes!

I did Curves on Monday and a brisk walk last night. I opted to have a rest day today. I wish now that I had exercised since the next few days are probably also going to be rest days. An SUV slammed into the back of our Sunfire tonight while we were stopped at a stoplight. It was quite a jolt - the back end of the car is kind of a mess. I'm a bit sore tonight (nothing major), but I probably won't be training for a few days.

Seven weeks from tomorrow I'll be on a plane to Orlando!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Keep up the great work everyone! Together we WILL do this!

Cheryl said
I probably won't be able to get a walk in tomorrow either beacuse I have to work, get a manicure and pedicure, and finish packing.

Wooohooo she IS getting the manicure and pedicure- WTG !!! Now I know Molli will want ALL the details of the cruise so put them in the memory bank for January - if she can wait that long - Have a magical time - we expect full report of the exercise you have "promised" to do ;)

Lisa - size 4 - mamamia!!!!!! that little bit of flab must be just that ----very little ::yes:: Congratulations - you are fit and "fast" - WTG !!!!

Cheryl- have a GREAT CRUISE!!! I want to hear all about it when you get back so I can be ready for mine in January!

Today I did 2.5 miles and then had an appointment with a cardiologist because I still have that fluttering I had last summer. My potassium is still low- and the Dr. said he thinks evrything will be ok- but has me on a heart monitor until tomorrow and then wants to do a stress test and and an ultrasound of my heart to be absolutely sure before I do the half. They say better safe then sorry- and so do I! Gotta be sure the old ticker is working right!

Karen - I'm glad you're getting everything checked out. You don't want to do the marathon if it could impact your future health.

I did the heart monitor thing in my early-20s...ends up that all the chest pains were stress--as the monitor read out didn't show a thing no matter how many times I clicked that button :hyper: :hyper: Required mental therapy instead of physical therapy :teeth: . I still get the pains occasionally--maybe it is time to go back ;) Nothing serious on my end though and I hope nothing serious on your end :yo-yo: I hope you get the green light for Disney ::yes::.

As for that 4--I guess my body is starting to look more like my sisters--she is a pixie--but not a stick--when you see "what lies beneath" the clothes ;) -- I guess exercise morphed my body into that. I'm still very excited ::yes:: . I haven't tried on a pair of pants yet, I'm still in 8s on those--but I'll take what I can get :)

Did another 3.15 miles today--I hate these supposed lactic acid or VO2 Max runs--you have to run so fast, yet I feel so slow...the time comes out okay--but I still despise them. I still do them b/c it does improve my marathon pace. I love my long runs better--I find them so very relaxing (though stinky and wet from all that sweat :hyper: ).

Got my GPS--no light in it, so hard to use in the dark--but it was neat to watch my pace and have an auto output of distance traveled. Kind of weird on the wrist--will take a little bit of getting used to.

For you walkers--are you speedwalking? Today when I was warming up--the pace got close to 16 minutes..but on my walk breaks--it was 17+ (though I tried to not go that slow). How is everyone pace going? I applaud you for your pacing efforts--evidently I am a pokey walker :hyper: .

Molli, the special tickets have to be purchased by someone regestered for the event/convention (you) but can be used by your guest (supposedly immediate family). The first use has to be during the event/time of your resort stay. That was the part I had to get cleared up because the 'event' is 1/6-1/10, but I didn't want to 'start' the ticket till 1/11. I'm OK because I've booked on Disney property for three more days. The ticket has a 10 day life span from date of first use.

I heard from Dreams Unlimited about our block of rooms. I had check with them to see if I cancelled and did my own booking at an AP rate, would it impact our group.....did we have enough rooms booked for our group rate? Here's her reply:

I am going to need to try to contact the group coordinator at Disney to see where we are at--I know we are very close
to the number we need to be at so let me check and see what happens if you cancel. It may take me a day or two to
get an answer back so please be patient. Have a great evening!

So, it looks like it's close. I wonder if there are WISH Walkers who haven't made room reservations yet? AND....if it's close, can we include regular old DISers in the group offer? I'll let you all know when I hear back from her. You'd think a group rate would be as least as good as an AP rate.

Our group rate for team in training at POFQ was $118 per night..I think with taxes it was $10 cheaper with my AP. But since half of my room is covered--we stayed with the group--my total is $118 for two nights (TNT pays the other half).

That is stinky--they should warn you before you book a group that AP rates may be coming out.

Happy Thursday to you all:wave:

I walked 5 miles today and I realized that i really need to stretch, that will be my goal for next time, remember to stretch!

Wow Lisa - congrats on the size 4 - I thought only teens wore those sizes:p

Jackie, does that mean we can book tickets through the meeting site? I'm sooo confused:crazy:

Karen, are you serious? showering & hairdo at 3 am???? I agree hat head is a no-no but I don't think I'm doing my hair that early, though I know what you mean about being "official" you never know who will be around that corner:teeth:

Did everyone look closely at the pics in the booklet? gloves look like a must. And what is with the lady in the front with headphones? I thought these were forbidden.

Have a wonderful cruise Cheryl:sunny: I want to be back on Castaway Cay too:(

Hello everyone!

Not much to report here. My training is on hold until I go to the doctor tomorrow. I may have some MS issues throwing me off right now.

I am completed confused about the ticket issue. These 2 or 3 day hoppers are the same kinds of tickets used when we have had any AAU tournaments at Wide World of Sports, so I am unsure why you were told otherwise, Molli. I certainly don't want a Length of Stay pass or a package! I think we will just buy through the Disney Meetings website and hope for the best.

Karen - :rotfl: Those clippies are great. However, I can promise I will not be beautiful at 3 am in the morning! Even if I do 'fix my face' in the morning, it is always gone in a couple of hours anyway, so why bother for something like this?? I will be going for a 'glowing' look. :p Good luck at the doctor's visit. I am sure everything will work out just fine for you. Being smart and safe is very important!!

Molli - if I could find the right do-rag, I would wear one. I will probably end up with a baseball cap. If you can come up with a Disney do rag, I am there!

Lisa - WOO HOO!!!! A Size 4!!!!!!!!!!! That's awesome!!!

MeMe - I noticed that in the pics as well. If you look closely, there are several people listening to music! No fair! What stuck out even more to me where the outfits (the running Minnie!), the Mickey ears, and the CROWDS! I thought by the time people were coming around the castle, things would be thinned out. That's quite a pack of people!

Keep working, WISH Walkers!! Slow and steady we will get there!!

Just a quick hello before I head out for my manicure and pedicure

Karen I am glad you are getting things checked out with your Dr.!!! I hope everything comes back good!

Jackie Were you actually able to get an AP rate? When they first came out I callled, a few times actually, and was told no AP rates at any of the moderates were available for the weekend of the marathon.

ohMom, Grammy and Karen I'll make sure to bring back lots of info from the cruise for you guys!

Keep moving everyone!!!

Cheryl

Quick check in.....on my lunch hour.

I did not checkon AP rates for moderates. I did for All Stars, and there were AP rates available for marathon weekend AT THAT TIME.

Yes, I'm booking tickets through the link we have in this thread. WIll probably do that this weekend.

Maybe sometime in December we should start a thread...."What's in your fanny pack....for the race" :D So we don't forget anything important!!

Why wait on the thread--our coach is telling us to start simulating race day conditions--you don't want anything to shock your system on race day (even if it is only 1 or 2 extra ounces). Post Post!

Dawn, my dh also wants a bigger tv, looking into 42 & 50 inch ones:rolleyes: now he's not too sure since ds & I take over the tv for cartoons & disney movies - honestly I think I was liking the idea of a big screen;) Are you 4 year olds excited about the kids race? I wasn't sure about signing up my 3 year old. Thoughts???

Auntmeme - My take on the kids races is that they only cost $5 each child. Both my kids have delays in their gross motor skills (DD's is much more mild than DS) and I'm hoping that the race will encourage them to like sports and be proud of finishing. However, if they don't want to do it when the time comes, I won't make them. If you decide to sign up your 3yr old, they will be in the same race (200 yds). We'll have to make sure to let the children meet if they all participate.

Today the children were feeling better, so they went to school. I was able to get a 45 minute mall walk in. It felt really good, with minimal leg pain. Of course, I wasn't going as fast as I could or wanted to. I kept having to slow down/stop to wait for strolling shoppers walking 4 or 5 across. There were so many people that would walk right in front of me, not looking, with this glazed expression on their faces. Of course when I'm Christmas shopping I probably look the same way  .

I'll be getting my fanny pack together soon. I don't have a clue what I'm going to carry except for lipstick and a disposable camera (I have my priorities straight, don't I?:cutie: )

hi guys!

Haven't been here in awhile, but wanted to stop in and let you know I'm thinking of you all!

I've read through most of the threads-won't even try to respond--too much stuff here! :earseek: You girls (and are the guys still hiding out in cyberland?) totally rock!

Lisa is sooo right--start planning now. Your clothes, fuels, pre race ritual. Nothing new on race day! btw, Lisa-what gps did you get? I have a forerunner 201 and LOVE it!

No run tonight (don't tell my coach!)-I'm crampy and cranky!

Almost there team!

Colleen

Happy Thursday evening everyone. I did Curves last night - Wed night (and I worked really, really hard), and then I did a 40 minute power walk at lunch today. I've decided that lunch-time workouts aren't as bad as I thought.

Karen ... take care of yourself ... and listen to the doctor.
Cheryl ... have a great cruise ... I WISH I was you right now!
Lisa ... wow ... size 4 ! Congrats !

As for the shower thing, I will too be having a shower ... but more to wake up than to look beautiful. There will be no make-up, and since my hair is short and permed, the shower will just take away the huge fuzziness :p

I'm a proud owner of a pic from our Niagara 1/2 and I have to say, NancyK and I aren't glamourous, but the smiles on our faces say it all :teeth:

Great work everyone. 7 weeks from right now I'll be tucked into my bed at WL Villas :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Good news- my heart monitor test seemed to be ok! They said there was an extra heart beat in there- but didn't seem too worried about it. So- now all I have to do is go in on Monday and have the treadmill test and the ultrasound and all will be said and done! The blood test did show that I still have the low potassium and a low magnesium count- so I'm taking supplements for that.

I need to do my 4 miles today- so I'm outta here!

Oh- one more thing- I did hear from Kamy yesterday. She's had some family things happening, her Uncle died and someone else got seriously ill. She's still planning on being there- and I'm waiting for the ok to finish the plans for the WISHWalker gatherings.

Just back to let you all know I DID DO my 4 miles tonight!

I had a good week last week and a not so good week so far this week.

I did my long run last Thursday - 6miles. When I finished I was disappointed in my time 1hr 35 mins, as it was slower than my normal 14.45 min mile. But then DH logged my route into his GPS and I actually ran 6.6 miles, so then I felt much better.

This week I have been so busy counselling my staff at work that I am not getting home until after 9pm, and I have been absolutely exhausted, so no runs. I am going tomorrow rain, hail or shine.

On the job front things might be looking up. Other areas in the bank have not been filling positions for the last 5-6 weeks, and today they released them all onto our internal job line. About 50 -60 positions. We have to apply, but because we are being restructed we are given priority candicacy. It's not enough jobs for everyone, but it's a good start.

Lisa - I agree, start carrying everything now.

I run with my fanny pack. In it I have:
drivers license
cell phone
whistle (I often run alone and it's a safety measure)
digital camera (I wouldn't normally run with it, but I am getting in practise for the 1/2).
Lip balm
power bar cut up into bite size pieces
and it has a pouch for my 500ml water bottle, which will have powerade in it.

It was kind of unwieldy for the first couple of runs and felt heavy round my waist, but now I don't notice it.

Have a great week everyone.

Rachael

Great work everyone.

It seems that we may not get to meet up much during our time there. I hope that we will be able to see each other for some time. I sure could use to give out some hugs to most of you for being such a great support to me.

I realize we will all be traveling at a different pace.
I hope we are planning on seeing one another at the start of the race or rather pre start, and I hope we will all be together as our last member crosses that finish line. It would be a great thing to experience together I am thinking. In other words, will those of you who finish waaayyy before me wait til I sail through if I am last?

I seem to be at a bit of a slow down still. I have not been able to get in more than 3-4 days a week now. I am hoping this is not going to create a crisis for me on race day. I am struggling to make more time.

I take my Mom to Cleveland Clinic for her semi annual follow-up, so I will be off work tomorrow. Eeek, today actually I guess I need to get to bed as I must roll out too soon. I hope I can squeeze something in for me too.

Karen, I am glad your news is good and hope that the rest of your tests turn out good.

I was remembering some earlier discussion and thought some of you might be interested in this link. Was it so long ago?. It has some pointers that might be of use as far as what to bring. I have been practicing with my camera and water bottle, just not gu or such yet. I know I must get on that. This weekend will be my test.
