We are visiting WDW in July and will be staying at POR. We have stayed there the past 3 trips and we have been in the SAME ROOM twice and one next to it once. (Long story) I DO NOT WANT TO STAY THERE AGAIN!!!
Is there anywhere I can look to find a map that has the handicapped rooms listed?? I know you can't request a specific room but I would like to see where they are in the Aligator Bayou section. I dont want to stay in the Mansions in the same room again!!!!!! I am thinking perhaps we need to request a water view handicapped access room.....is there such a thing. I would like DS to be closer to the main bldg. Thanks in advance!

There are not maps that I know of, but I remember hearing there were at least some accessible rooms in building 14.

If you've paid for a water view room ( which it sounds like you have ) then you can request Alligator Bayou/water view. The room I've had there several times with that designation is just a short walk away on a paved surface from the Main Bldg/food court/bus stop. When we first stayed there I didn't really consider it though to have a great water view. We had to go outside and there was a winding river right outside the building. I think by putting in a request for a fully accessible room in AB you'll avoid getting the Mansions room again- I remember the last time you got it...sigh.---Kathy

I know the last time was such a disappointment but I have to say the room we keep getting is very nice...it is just the SAME ROOM :goodvibes I should be happy that we are there! Thanks for the advice I am going to ask for a water view handicapped access room in AB....I will cross my fingers and toes and hope that we get something. I know they cannot promise anything. I am also going to again let Special Services know.

Just looked through some of our WDW photos and I am laughing because DD took a photo of the hotel room #...little did we know it was going to become our "time-share" for future visits! We are smiling in every photo which again verifys to me that although the room was a disappointment we were still in WDW and we had a great time!!!

In November 2006 we were in a handicap accessible room in AB building 14, we loved it. It was a short walk to the food court and a short walk to the busses. I know requests are not always honored, but we did request building 14.

A couple of years ago I started trying to document the accessible rooms but was met by an uncooperative attitude which reasoned that divulging the HA room locations would be a security problem...

Well yeah. Everyone knows HA rooms are occupied by diamond importers who leave their stuff lying about.:confused3

I've seen lists of HA rooms at various resorts. Someone even compiled a room directory of BCV with HA designations. No one's managed a comprehensive directory though. Too many resorts and rooms for the DIS to keep track of. This is probably why Disney employs its own Special Needs department full time.

The wheelchair accessible rooms actually were marked with a wheelchair symbol at one point long, long ago. One security concern was that having the symbol on the door might tip off people that there might be a vulnerable person staying in that room.
