Does anybody honestly get excited when the local "All Christmas Music" (Correction) "All Holiday Music" radio station let's loose with a little Steamroller?

Maybe I'm just a scrooge but I just don't see the fascination with it. Don't get me wrong I love synthesizers. I still miss John Tesh's NBA theme. I just can't hear a Steamroller tune without thinking the Main Street Electrical Parade has fallen on hard times and has to do a lame Christmas album to pay for bulbs.

I HATE MS. From the first time I heard them ruin "Deck the Halls". The sound of synthesizers makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Can't begin to say how much I dislike their sound.

The End.

LOL its funny you say that...DH and I were just talking the other day how we like MS BECAUSE it reminds us of Spectromagic...To each his own I guess:lmao: ..

Generally I'm not a fan of Xmas music, but given my druthers I prefer instrumentals, so I don't hate MS or TSO.

I have an album of Disney instrumental Xmas music; it's mostly jazz, and nothing that anyone knows words for.

I like Mannheim Steamroller, but only in small doses. It DOES remind me of the Electric Light Parade.

Hate them.

My parents love them and have all their CDs. To each his own, I guess, but yuck. :headache:

Mannheim Steamroller was around long before they did Christmas CD's and their non-holiday stuff is very good, IMO. They did a great Disney Album a few years ago. I was disturbed to find out that they are touring without Chip Davis for Christmas this year. Chip David is Mannheim Steamroller - in the beginning it was literally just him.

As a real musician who plays real instruments I can only take a very small amount of sythesized, canned crap... :) (Not saying MS are not musicians, they just don't play "real" insturments - they are digital, that's all I'm sayin'.)

Another real musician that plays real instruments here and I'll add that only part of MS is synthisized. They have live (real) strings, winds and singers. They do have a lot of electronics but Chip Davis is really a very good musician.

Maybe it is because I am a "real musician" that i like to hear something different. I haven't listened to a terrible amount of their stuff, but I love their Ukrainian Bell Carol.

we love them too!

they are only touring without Chip because he is recovering from surgery or illness - forgot the details. Hopefully, he will be back next year! I do have to say the new album is my least favorite, though.

Did you all know Chip was CW McCall and did "Convoy" (which started as a local radio commercial for bread). I think MS was probably the result of the popularity of this song and the funds it raised!

I also love "Ukrainian Bell Carol" and their violinist plays so beautifully!!!! I have seen them in concert - and they definitely play real instruments. I love how they take old forms of music and old instruments and combine them with the modern.

:)

That's exactly right. In fact, it did fund MS in the beginning. We have all of their non-Christmas recordings and they are great! I love the Christmas stuff but their Fresh Aire series and others are real music (for lack of a better word).

funny thing is I was a teen at the time and used to roll my eyes at my parents and their "Convoy" song.....flash forward and I love Chip Davis and MS (I have the Disney CD too!). I call it from the "ridiculous to the sublime".:)

I love Mannheim Steamroller. In fact, they will be at Universal Studios in concert on Saturday night. I will probably head over there to hear them!!!

MS is my favorite group for holiday music! And not just Christmas either. They have some great Halloween albums.
