Please no one yell at me but how mandatory are the mandatory life boat drills at the beginning of the cruise. What happens if someone doesn't show up or can one person in the family show up for the group?

Thanks for any info
Karen

Mandatory=must attend. Every passenger. Names are checked off.

Of course, everyone never expects to have to report to his/her lifeboat stations. But what if???? Could you ever forgive yourself if you or someone in your party did not know where to report? Suppose different family members were attending different activities when the emergency signal sounded. Of course, we expect to never hear the emergency signal. But what if????

My advice: Mandatory=must attend.

PLEASE just show up and show up early. It elongates the drill for everyone when they are missing a stateroom. They just keep calling off the number and waiting around. And everyone secretly in their minds are thinking of ways to make room #XXXX pay for making them have to stand there in the life jackets. ;)

Seriously, if everyone would just show up about 5 minutes prior to the whistle and then listen to the announcements , it would go much faster.

GO to the drill. It only takes 15 minutes out of your day, it is for the safety of ALL of your family and it is mandatory.

Those life jackets, which they made us wear are hotter than the dickens, please go. If everyone shows up, you are out of there fast.

Hi xhaustedmomma.

can one person in the family show up for the group?

That would be about as effective as your child's pediatrition giving you an examination to check on how your child is doing...

That was what I wanted to know, I don't want to inconvience anyone else so I will go.

Thanks for the info

Karen

After all these replies to your post, you must be a REALLY xhaustedmomma! Like you requested, I will NOT yell. To actually answer your original questions, the penalty for not going to the drill is a letter to your stateroom explaining the importance of going to the lifeboat drill (for future reference I suppose) and explaining where your meet location is in case of emergency. One person cannot go in place of the entire party - you'll still get the letter. Don't let this little bit of lectures here discourage you - normally there are a lot more ;) Sometimes the dis'rs get a little carried away with concern for others :p Feel free to post again for some more "concerned" lectures. :jester:

Go because it's the rules and safety is important BUT BESIDES THAT...it's kinda fun and gets you even more excited for cruising. I know, I'm a bit strange, but it's funny seeing everyone bobbling around awkwardly in those big orange things! We always get kick out of it!

Remember "The Posidon(sp) Adventure" and "Titanic". Better to know exactly what the drill is than to be a credit at the end of a disaster at sea movie!
Happy sailing! You're gonna love every minute!

Karen, I think you answered your own question with the words mandatory...

Learning from these boards.. the sooner everyone gets to the "MANDATORY" drills, the sooner everyone is done and all set to get ready for the sail away!! Take a look at some of MJ's pictures, Brian looks oh so dapper in his life vest!!! Have fun and enjoy the cruise.

It is the perfect photo opp. We will all go. Hopefully my little boy will cooperate and wear the jacket.

WE missed the life boat drill- we were just getting off our EXTREMELY LATE plane flight and were on the DCL bus just leaving the airport when the life boat drill began. We were just happy to make it to the boat at all!! We were WISHING we could have been on the boat early with life vests on! We did get a letter, but I think they knew our situation because it was not mean or rude at all, but just told us to locate our life boat station as soon as we could so we would know where to go in case of emergency (which we did). Next time we hope to be on the ship early enough to relax, have some lunch, make some reservations and then happily go to the life boat drill before settling in on deck 10 to watch the sail-away.....

Have a GREAT time on your trip!! And take goofy orange-vested pics that we won't get until next time when we fly in THE NIGHT BEFORE!!! :p

Hey BD~ I've missed you~~

one, except when the letters are so small, I didn't see I typed in the extra "s" :teeth: but plus Karen did use the word twice, so maybe that's where I got the mandatory's from??? hmm..
