I have noticed in some threads about looking for the manatees, where would one look for them? Are they easy to see or just "blobs under the water?"
Thanks Ann

Shirley had info & directions not that long ago. They are about 1mile south of the Radisson.
Shirley - I was wondering if they are still there or did they move on? I wanted to take DS there next Fri the 29th. Will it be worth our time? Thought I read a post that they arent there now.

There is also a manatee park right behind the Radisson with a nice boardwalk. You can
also see the ships in port from the park. Manatee's are a hit or miss thing. We didn't see
any when we went on Nov 2nd cruise but usually when you do see them what you see
is there snout(nose) and their back when they come up for air. Also depends how far
out in the water they are.. Shirley is the resident expert for sure! Gary

Last Sept 22nd 2001 7-day cruise we had stateroom #7636 aft on the Magic. Before we set sail there was one right between the aft of the ship and the dock---right behind the propellers!!

At first we thought it was a turtle!!! Then we realized that it was a manatee (more rarer of a sighting than seeing a dolphin on a cruise ship!!).

So next time you cruise maybe just look around at your surroundings first before trying so hard to surch them out! LOL!!!

The spot that Shirley had mentioned to see the manatees was on Center Street which is South of the Radison and just North of Shirleys shop! We stopped in after we got off the ship on Nov 3, but we did not get to see these gentle giants. Although, my family (there were 17 of us!) was in a great hurry because we were on our way to Islands of Adventure at Universal.

Manatees come up for air, but when they are under the water, they can stay there for long periods of time. It is so cool to see the manatees in their natural habitat! We did get to see manatees once while on a different vacation. We were on the Gulf Coast in Boca Grande, and were coming back into the marina after a day of boating. There were two manatees playing! A local lady told us they love fresh water and to turn on the hose for them. They layed there drinking the water like a baby would drink a bottle for the longest time - it was the COOLEST THING!! :p

Good luck on your hunt for manatees, and Happy Cruising! I wish I were going again soon!! :p ;)

Manatees like the warm water. If you are travelling to Florida in November through Feb/March, they may have moved from their normal places to warmer areas like Blue Spring State Park which has a natural spring which is 72 degrees year round. Blue Spring is about 35-40 minutes from Port Canaveral.
