I've read numerous posts about how difficult it can be to manage transferred points. Since the points usually don't match a Use Year or Home Resort, they don't show up in your online account, and you have to speak with Member Services to use or bank those points.

But, what happens if they do match your account? If you have a matching Use Year, or a matching Home Resort, or both? Will points transferred in be visible and manageable through your online account? Or are they still relegated to Member Services' control?

Transferred points are not added to your account so you can't see them or do anything with them. They are like a note added to your file. Problem is many MS advisors don't know where to find them and/or how to use them.

IMO, transfers are a courtesy or feature that MS wishes would go away.

A few years ago we lost a club level reservation due to MS not knowing how to use transferred points, things may be a little better today but still not worth it IMO.

If they match your UY and resort then sometimes they show up.

I have transferred in a few times and it just means finding a way to remember them and the banking dates outside of the system.

Once a reservation is made you can manage it just like any other reservation

I have never had a problem with CMs finding and using them, but I am always direct about what points I have when I start the process of booking with transferred in points.

The only bad thing is that you loose the 1 hours advantage that on line booking has

I've used transferred points twice and it's been a seemless process both times. Bill...I would be pissed if that happened to me....but I also think the online component of viewing reservations will prevent that from happening again. The first time we transferred from a friend who had extras they weren't going to use. It allowed us to get an extra trip (technically the first) using the AP. We came to an arrangement with them mutually beneficial (as opposed to a direct $exchange) and they were here with us during that trip. We booked the trips on the phone at the same time as the transfer so it would have pretty difficult for them to screw that up.

The second time was for our current trip. My mother asked to join us after we had this booked so I found someone on the rent/boards. I could have easily rented points for her (which is basically what it was) but she didn't understand the whole thing and wanted me to control her reservation rather than a stranger. Again it was very easy to do with MS. Like stated above...the biggest issue is you have to know what you have as they won't show up online and you have to call to use them so you lose that hour booking time that you get online.

The points would have to be BOTH the same resort and the same UY to be visible online and available for online reservations.

Think of your account like a spreadsheet. If you own AKV with a June UY then your account has a column for "AKV June UY" points. If you also own BCV, you would have another column for "BCV June UY" points, and so on for every resort you own under that membership.

If you transfer in points that are also "AKV June UY" they can add them to that column in your spreadsheet because they are an exact match. You would see your AKV points had increased by the amount you transferred in and would be able to use them to make an online reservation.

If you transfer in anything else, for example "AKV Feb UY" or "BLT June UY", there is no place to put those points because your account does not have a column for those exact type of points. And it doesn't make sense to create a new column on the fly for transferred points since that is a one-time event.

I don't know how they track transferred points that don't match any of your existing contracts. I assume they just make a note in a comments field of your account "July 7, 2014: Transferred in 100 points, BLT June 2014 UY" and then manage the points manually. Therefore you cannot see them online and cannot use them to make an online reservation.
