SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A couple on a low-carb diet were kicked out of a buffet restaurant after the manager said they'd eaten too much roast beef.

Sui Amaama, who along with his wife have been on the Atkins Diet for two weeks, was asked to leave after he went up to the buffet at the Chuck-A-Rama in suburban Taylorsville for his 12th slice of roast beef.

"It's so embarrassing actually," said Isabelle Leota, Amaama's wife. "We went in to have dinner, we were under the impression Chuck-A-Rama was an all-you-can-eat establishment."

Not so, said Jack Johanson, the restaurant chain's district manager.

"We've never claimed to be an all-you-can-eat establishment," said Johanson. "Our understanding is a buffet is just a style of eating."

The general manager who was carving the meat Tuesday became concerned about having enough for other patrons and asked Amaama to stop, Johanson said.

Offended, the couple asked for a refund. The manager refused and called police when they would not leave.

The couple said they have eaten at Chuck-A-Rama's $8.99 buffet at least twice a week, but did not plan to return.

Okay, Chuck-A-Rama sure sounds like an all you can eat place to me. I guess I would want to know how big they slice their roast beef. If it is tiny little thin pieces, 12 doesn't seem totally ridiculous. If he was on a low carb diet, he probably wasn't eating much else on the buffet.

However, the couple loses solely on the fact they ate at a place called Chuck-A-Rama to begin with. :teeth:

This is so funny, because I've eaten there!!! And I was under the impression that it was all-you-can-eat. Go figure.

I don't think I could eat at a place called Chuck A Rama.
IMO the manager is wrong. A buffet is all you can eat. There is no limit. Kind of embarrassing for the couple, I think.

I read that in today's paper and think they were treated horribly
unless it said there was a limit on something they should be able to have all they could eat
we have a seafood buffet here that is all you can eat but you can either have one steak or one lobster tail per person
if there is a limit on the meat it should say on the signs, menu etc
shame on the restaurant

Oh my goodness I have eaten at that restaurant. Its very similar to Hometown/Old Country Buffet. How strange you think the manager just would have let it slide to keep their business.

CHUCKARAMA???????????????????????

come onnnnnnnnnnnn, you guys are making this up right??????

right?????????

Hey--that same thing happened here some time back to a couple of guys my husband worked with.
They were both big, burly, muscular guys with appetites to match.

After, I guess what were deemed a few too many trips to the buffet, they were asked to leave.

Afterwards, they just laughed about it, but I would have been ticked.

I don't think the word buffet means all you can eat, but at a restaurant it means that by default because that's the way most places do it.

I think the manager was within his rights to ask him to go easy on the beef, but should have given them a refund when asked. Sorry for the misunderstanding, the customer is always right kind of thing. I think there is probably more to this story - like possibly beligerance on the part of the customer that caused it to escalate.

oh that is so wrong! If it's all you can eat, then they should be allowed to eat all they want.

LOL!!! This is hysterical!!

I have two nephews that would call that a SNACK!! I hope UpChuck-a-rama is not in Chattanooga!

Isn't the whole point of a diet limiting the amount of food you eat?

Assuming this is what he was eating :

Beef, chuck, arm pot roast, separable lean and fat, trimmed to 0" fat, all grades, cooked, braised 3 oz (86.0 g)

1 piece, cooked, excluding refuse (yield from 1 lb raw meat with refuse) (246.0 g) 689 calories X 12 = 8268 calories!!!!!!!

Thats no diet.

Sounds like he's asking for a heart attack.

Blech I hate buffets.

didn't this actually happen on the Simpsons once? Homer sued this buffet place because they didn't actually have all he could eat? There was this great courtroom scene where they brought in sacks and sacks of shrimp to show just how much shrimp Homer had eaten.

There is also a great comedian named John Pinette who in one of his skits says that he got kicked out of a chinese food all you can eat buffet, The owner said " You go now, you've been here 4 hours." LOL

Yes, this came to mind when I read the article. LOL

Almost as funny as the couple who were kicked out of a movie theater, I think it was in Tenn., for sharing one container of popcorn. Anyone remember that?

As to Chuckorama....bad for business.......very bad.....dumb dumb dumb mistake on the part of the manager.

That is to funny but unless the place specifically says ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET then the Manager has every right to refuse. To often we figure a buffet to be all you can eat but it is not always the case it usually says on the menu someplace well in Canada it does anyhow.

OMG I so remember that in Canada....those lovely little menus with " one trip to the salad bar " specified.

Truthfully, I have not seen that down here yet. I have seen it applied to a salad bar where a " one trip" is priced differently than an " all you can eat".....but I have never seen it at a buffet.

For every guy like this one there are kids who won't hardly eat anything, and 98 pound women who take extremely small portions. Why lose a customer over beef? It's what's for dinner:teeth:
