I know at Mama Melrose, they give complimentary rolls and olive oil. Are you allowed to request more, or do they charge if you want additional beyond the one they provide?
I couldn’t even get the free ones out of my server last trip in April (when I pushed back and pointed out other tables had them she said maybe she could get some old ones from the back if there were any left yeah, she was an awful server)…
You can get more - but you definitely have to ask for them now. They used to just bring rolls. On our last trip we were all sad because we noticed nobody had rolls, then concluded they must have stopped doing rolls at lunch. When we were getting ready to go I saw one table had some, so I asked and the server told us they are now by request only, but when requested they are free.
We ate there a couple of weeks ago and noticed other tables had rolls, but we were never offered any, so that solves the mystery. We ordered the fettucine with shrimp and the sustainable fish (mahi mahi) and the portions were so small we actually laughed when the plates were set down- they looked like kids meals!
We opted for ice cream by Tower of Terror for dessert, which was larger than our Mama Melrose food portions! lol
Asking for rolls/bread has spread to many restaurants, not just Disney. It's a move to cut costs and annoy customers. This is the new model for customer service. "We are currently experiencing higher that normal call volumes". Sure, give me a break.
To me Mama Melrose was always rather frugal with everything and always charged for expected and included things in every other Italian restaurant. To that we went once and that was at least 14 years ago. But we did get a good laugh with the extras we paid for like a side of spaghetti with a person that ordered chicken parmigiana. Never could understand the complaints about Tony's when this place was far worse in every respect. I do not recall free rolls with the meal either back then I could be wrong.

That sounds like you hit the jackpot for a bad server - rolls were always included, used to come out without asking, and the spaghetti is part of the chicken parmigiana meal. That's just weird. It was my go-to favorite meal until I developed a dairy allergy.
We ate here last month and our server told us that the rolls are being 'phased out' so right now they ONLY have them if you ask - and even then, they often dont have any.
Also, one of our worst meals of the trip. We only went because we desperately needed an Air Conditioned meal and they had an opening
Mama Melrose used to be our favorite restaurant in HS. We ate there every trip. Our meal there in April was so bad we will not be back. And yes, we had to ask for the bread and after receiving some attitude from the server, we were given a couple of very tasteless hard rolls.

Maybe! I returned last week and it was like a totally different experience. No issues bringing rolls when I asked and the server was both nice & attentive.
