Maltesers vs Whoppers

I just tried Malteasers for the first time. For those who don’t know, they’re chocolate covered malt balls originally made by Mars’s UK division. Whoppers (Hershey) are the closest equivalent I can think of although they were introduced later.

They just handed them out as samples at a Six Flags park, where I tried them for the first time. They’re in a package that says something about being among the first in the US to try them. I think these are made in Canada, but I like them better than Whoppers. The chocolate is smoother and the malt taste is less bitter. They also don’t require iron jaws to chew through them.

The first time I’d heard about them was on the Carpool Karaoke segment with Ed Sheeran, where he and James Corden has a contest to see how many could fit in their mouths. Sheeran managed 55 before spitting them out.

My favorite malted milk balls as a kid 55 years ago or so were sold under the brand name "Goof Balls".
Whoppers are good though.
I'd like to try Malteasers. I checked, I guess I can order some from Amazon.

Malt teasers all the way. Whoopers are really dry to me. Different taste too, melt in your mouth good.

I am a Canadian , it is my go to at the movie theatre.

Found Target carries them now. Their website says in stock for $1.39 for a theater box.

If there's a Cost Plus near you, they may carry them. (Just saw them today at my local one.)

Never heard of them before.

The absolutely best malt balls I have ever tried were ones sent to us (the Company I worked for) by our malt supplier. It was a sad sad day when the company changed malt suppliers and we no longer got them.

I’ve had both and liked them, but not frequently enough to compare the two.

I did notice that BJ’s now sells a large bucket of Maltesers. I remember as a kid, eating Whoppers from the milk carton style box.

Whoppers are a standard Hallowe’en candy around here.

I used to love them but ate too many and now I can’t even look at them.

Maltesers are the best! We can now get them in half kilo buckets - that's a lot of Maltesers! We've tried malt balls when we're in Florida and they're not in the same league as Maltesers. Think the chocolate has a lot to do with it.

I love Maltesers. I can eat them the bucket, Whoppers on the other hand arent my taste at all.

You lot are so deprived not having easy, affordable access to Maltesers.

Or violet crumbles.

OK, I spelled it wrong. It’s been fixed. However, they’re pretty new to me.

This was the first I’d ever heard of them:

I'll have to try these. I love Whoppers, but am not really a fan of Hershey's chocolate o_O.

We have Maltesers everywhere in my area (Hershey/Palmyra PA). Walmart, Target, Giant...just to name a few. My DD has been eating them for a few years now and loves them- much better than Whoppers.

I've had both. But it has been a long time for either. So I couldn't compare them

But in general, I like European chocolate more than US chocolate.

Depends on what you mean by "US chocolate". There is really good American made chocolate available, although at a pretty high price point. But if you mean regular Hershey, then yeah. But I feel US-made chocolate from Mars or Nestle is better than from Hershey.

But I prefer the quality of other US-made chocolate at a basic price point. I hesitate to say "mass-produced" since most "premium" chocolate is mass-produced.

And this discussion may not be an apples to apples comparison. I know of some people who prefer UK imports and will even pay a steep price for them. Also - I read that these Malteasers I tried are probably made in a factory in Canada, although I'm guessing the chocolate was sourced from the US.
