My sister in law has invited me to go with her to Mall of America in November for a girls weekend trip(Thursday-Sunday). We are getting the flights for free because she has credit card airline miles that she has to use or they are gone at the end of this year and my brother will not fly at all, so we're doing the girls thing.

We are going halfs on the room which she was able to get for the time for 241 dollars. Are there any better deals out there?

I've never been there and she's been twice, so is it really worth the trip to go to the Mall?

I was there in March. Not sure I'd do a special trip just for the mall. That being said, as an excuse for a girls trip away especially with free airline tickets, whey not. I love a girls weekend!

I liked it because they have so many stores we don't have her in El Paso.

Tucci Bunucci is an Italian restaurant. LOVED their butternut squash ravioli in an apple cider cream sauce. I'd go back just to eat there!

Have a great trip. Where are you staying and will you have a car?

I would say no, but I live 20 minutes from MOA and can go whenever!

That being said, thumbs up to a girls weekend!!!

What hotel did you get the $241/pp deal on? I then might be able to give suggestions for alternatives. Is it worth the trip to go? I live close to the M of A, and to me it's just a mall. I am always suprised when I hear that people will actually fly here to go to it. Yes, it's big. Yes, there are lots of stores and good restaurants. We have no sales tax on clothing, which is a positive I guess. If you like to shop that much, then it might be worth it to you.

No sales tax?!?! That's awesome! That's definitely worth a trip for me!

Spend part of my year in Mn and MOA is my mall of choice for shopping.
Many times when I have been there I will say, "I wish I was coming here as a visitor, having never been here before, it would be so much fun to do that!".
Enjoy our Mall and all it has to offer. Welcome to MN!
I do not know where you have looked into for lodging, but Country Inn and Suites is nice and just across the street. Fairfield INN is very near also. I would assume that most of the near hotels have shuttles to THE mall. Airport is really near too.

I just got back from there and I found the best deal and the La Quinta Inn and Suites on America Blvd. We got a king suite for $109 per night. It was about 10 minutes west of the mall but did have shuttle service. The room was better than I expected with a comfy king bed and a comfy pull out couch in the other room with a door between the rooms. Two tv's, two full bathrooms, fridge, and Microwave. I think we enjoyed the room more than the mall. lol It was extremely crowded when we went but I enjoyed no tax on clothing.

I'm from MN as well and I always find it interesting that people actually fly here just to visit MOA. I was just there at the end of July - had a lot of fun with my mom and my little girl... It would be a great place for a girl's weekend!

There are other things to do. The lightrail train stops at the MOA and runs all the way into downtown Minneapolis. You could spend a day going down there and hitting some of the restaurants, bars, and shops. No car needed.

We stayed at the Hilton a mile away in February and it was really nice. They had a shuttle to/from the airport and MOA. You can sign up for Hilton Honors(free) and you get free internet. Here is a link. I did a random Sun-Thurs in November and the best rate was $89.99. I am assuming the $241 you mentioned was for one night. If it is for all three nights, yours is cheaper.

I don't know if I'd go there just for shopping, but then I am not that into shopping. We went for an orientation to an online degree program at St Catherines University.

My niece and I are planning a girls weekend too in March! We are intense when it comes to our shopping and we could in fact spend days at a mall...so for us MOA sounds like a "destination" worth visiting!

We are in need of a hotel with a shuttle service as well. Thinking of booking on hotwire.com but I am a little concerned with what I may get. Anyone have a suggestion or two?:surfweb:

I dropped my oldest son off at college in MN this year, and we flew into Minneapolis, then stayed at the Microtel, about 1/2 a mile away. I got the room for $65 for the night. Nothing special, we just needed a place to sleep before heading to the college. We went to the MOA, it was fun, my son did almost all his school shopping there, plus we're from Alaska, and only have one or two REAL malls. That said, if you live anywhere near a good size mall, I think it's about the same really.

Is the $241 per person or are you paying half of that? If you're paying half of it then she found the best deal around the MoA. Just make sure it has a shuttle if you aren't renting a car.
Purplepixie is right the lightrail can take you to other parts of the twin cities. Downtown Minneapolis has some awesome spots.
There is also an Ikea just a few steps outside of the mall. Check out the mall's website for coupons and tips. Also they have special events going on all the time which you can find on their website.
It is worth it if you haven't been to a big mall before if you like shopping.

Also, this always kills me. If you drive to the back of the mall by (I think its Perkins or IHOP) on the corner of the MoA is a horse farm. Yeah you've got this huge complex devoted to commerce and the all mighty dollar but you walk a half block and there's a horse farm.... :lmao:

When in November are you going? We were there a few years ago (because we happened to be in the twin cities), and based on the early August crowds, I would NOT be going anywhere near that place Thanksgiving weekend or in December. :scared1:

When we were there we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Egan. It was very nice, the beds were extremely comfy.

Also, I'd be wary of the weekend before Thanksgiving. That is the start of "widow's weekend" in WI (ie deer hunting ;)) and most everyone heads to the MOA to get a start on xmas shopping. :)

I live about 2 1/2 hours from the MOA. I don't get there often, but when I do I love it. But I love to shop, too! A girls' weekend of shopping with no kids, no spouses and no tax on clothing is a perfect weekend to me.

Have a great time!

lol... We used to live in Ohio (my dh works in Woodbury MN) and one year took a Spring Break trip just to go to the MOA. Fast forward a few years and he got relocated here and so now we are also close by (25 min for us) and can go anytime we want. In fact, other than Maplewood mall, it's the closest mall for us (Rosedale isn't too much farther either).

I would do it for a girls weekend! There is also an IKEA right across the street and you can take the train to downtown Minneapolis for more shopping and dining (and various shows/concerts). You really wouldn't even need a car.

BTW, if you are going Tday weekend, they announced on the news the other day that MOA will be open at midnight on Black Friday as will Target. Crazy!!!!! lol

I'm about 20 min away too (North St Paul) :)

OP--whenever we do a MOA wkd we always stay at the Embassy Suites. The location is great & they have a mgrs happy hours at night with free cocktails, soda, slushies, & lights appetizers. They also have a great breakfast in the AM. Its well worth the money IMO.

They also have a shuttle to the MOA :)

Have fun!

Absolutely love going to MN with my sister and friend! We do it once a year and I can say from experience that the Mall of America is only a very small part of what's available in the area!

Could you please explain the $241 in a little more detail. Is that for 3 nights, only your share, etc. That might make it easier to give you advice on your questions.
