I have a really big celebration coming up in 2006 and I have a question about making reservations. My home is Wilderness Lodge but I was thinking about staying at the Boardwalk.. now heres the question...

Do I make reservations at the 11 month stage for the Wilderness Lodge to make sure I have something secured and then try for the Boardwalk at the 7th month stage and if I get it cancel the one at the Wilderness Lodge, and will it be to hard to get reservations at the Boardwalk at 7 months out??? I need a 2 bedroom villas.... It will be the last week of October and the 1st week of November, 8 days total.

I'm not sure how this all works .... so thanks for any help!

It sounds to me like you know what you're talking about! I would definetly make ressie at my home resort at the 11th month window and then at the 7 month try for BWV. I believe the time of year you are going is pretty busy- so you should definetly reserve at your 11 month window. I wouldn't be too disappointed if I were you if I couldn't get into the 7 month window at BWV's. WLV is a beautiful place - and at that time of the year, it would feel wonderful to be there!

Because the time period you are looking at for BWV falls during the Epcot Food & Wine activities (and Halloween??), you may have some difficulty trying to book into BWV at the 7-month mark. I would definitely book at your home resort 11 months out.

We just joined in April (with BWV as our home resort). When we tried to book at BWV for the week of October 16, only certain nights were available. We ended up booking at OKW for the entire week but are waitlisted at BWV.

Hope this helps!

Thank you both for your advice....

What you are talking about worked for me for our upcoming trip. I made my reservation at BCV at 11 months and then switched at 7 to VWL. I was able to get exactly what I wanted!:sunny:

You will love the Boardwalk!

The "book at 11, switch at 7" method has worked well for us too. Since we don't like to move during a vacation stay, we always wait until 7 months from the check out day to ask for the entire reservation to switch. If that didn't work, we'd go on the wait list knowing that we already have something "in our pocket".

Some people like to make their 7 month reservation switch using the "day to day" method of reserving. For us, we'd rather go all or nothing.

I just did the reverse...booked 11/25-12/1 at BWV and waitlisted for VWL. My last day just came through last week. I love it when a plan comes together.

I did almost the exact thing that you're wanting to do. Last year I booked at our home VWL at the 11 month mark, then switched to BCV at 7 months. This was during the exact time frame that you mentioned...last week of October-first week of November. Didn't have any problems, even with the F & WF going on!

I just did it too. I booked 11 months out, at our home, BCV. At seven months, called and had to wait list for a portion of our stay at BWV, standard view, for the first week in November. It took a couple months, but the two nights that I waitlisted came through. :D Good luck! :D

That's the great thing about DVC! You know you will have a great place to stay.

Another advantage of booking at 11 months and then waitlisting is you can continue with your planning. You can make travel arrangements and be 100% sure because you have a ressie.

I did the same. When Member Homecoming was announced 5 months out, there were slim picikings. The airfares were great, so I booked what was available at DVC, waitlisted for what I wanted and purchased my air. My waitlist did come thru 30 days out at SSR.
