Making my wife’s magic band go purple

I purchased a resale contract and I’ve setup my DVC account. My wife wasn’t really involved in the process. How do I go about setting her account up? I would like to see her magic band go purple but I don’t see how it will know she is a member if she doesn’t set up an account. I know I received a one-time code for set up. If she did too, I’m sure it’s expired by now.
Thank you.

She will need to contact MS and create/activate an account. Then link that to her own MDE account.

I could have sworn with our resale that each new member got their own separate account activation e-mail with a unique one-time passcode. Did your wife provide a separate e-mail (usually in the buyer's questionnaire) during the purchase process?
if she did get one I’m sure it’s expired by now. I guess I will have to call member services. I’ll be there this week, maybe I could talk to someone at one of the resorts.

Resorts cannot assist. Only member services. And they might require her to contact them - maybe not but just be aware that might be required.

I wonder what would happen if she tried to enter the expired code? Might the system recognize it was expired and send another one?

Because calling MS will not be fun...

Try it. But I think if she has her own MDE account it should recognize her as a DVC owner.

I don’t think it’s a big deal if she has a DVC log in.

If she has one,, go into that and see if it’s listed under her affiliations. Be aware, though, that sometimes it doesn’t work to show purple

It is hit or miss at some parks for me!

yep, i called for my daughter to set up her account and was told they will only talk to her to set it up. They walked her through it.

I had to do this same thing with my husband. I emailed the Member Administration department (as directed by the voice message when I called) and they emailed him the stuff in about a week. The email is wdw.dvc.member.administration@disney.com and I included my name, his name as co-purchaser, his email, his phone number, our member number and the club ID (I don't think this was necessary since they sent it to him again). Just ask for her activation code.

She shouldn’t need her own DVC account but she would need her own MDE account. But as others have said even with that you don’t always light up purple.

I can only speak for myself and my wife and maybe its because of the bolded.

I setup my wife with her own DVC account and linked it to her MDE account. We both light up purple every single time. So I am not sure what causes issues for people but if I had to guess it might be that not everyone has a separate login to DVC with the exact same email thats in DME and then linked. Also could do with randomness or possibly too many activated magic bands.

All I know is what we have done and that it always works.

I am hit or miss so it’s not a sure thing. So is my daughter who has both DVC and MDE.

If your only concern is having your wife see the purple when she enters the park, and if your MagicBand makes it turn purple when you enter the park - can you swap MagicBands with her? Or if you are ordering new MagicBands, order for each other. (You want blue, she wants red. If ordering from Disney, order blue for her and red for you; when they arrive, you take the blue and she takes the red. If buying and inputting the info into MDE yourself, input the info for the blue MagicBand under her name and info for the red MagicBand under your name; you take the blue and she takes the red.

(Edited to add: I assumed the spouses would have the same type of ticket, and it wasn't AP.)

But as others have said: even if someone is the sole owner of a contract, their MagicBand doesn't always make the tapstyle thing turn purple when they enter the park.

This won’t work because the magic band is attached to an individual and their tickets. So, you can’t enter on someone else’s.

Well, now that they’re not using the finger scanner, you can. A husband and wife swapping bands and entering the same park at the same time wearing each other’s MB shouldn’t cause any problems. And if it means making the spouse happy to see Mickey turn purple and say “Welcome Home!” then I don’t see a reason not to. But I do NOT advocate anyone else swapping bands for any other reason!

Separate but relisted question.

Can someone who is an Administrative contact but not a co-owner also be set up to get the purple? My DW is not on the deed, but she is an admin contact. If so, how do we go about that?

Its based on being an owner on the contract and the affiliation on MDE will only be there for actual owners.

I just activated my account in January. It was a resale also. You only get one code originally, to activate one account. You have to call member services to get another code for the second account holder on the contract. I called a couple of months ago to set up my husband's account.

Hey all! Brand new to the boards here and waiting for our new member emails to arrive any day now...that we're anxious or anything...but as it pertains to this topic, I just had a few questions.

If I read through this thread correctly, we'll receive ONE code that can be linked to one person and THAT person will have their magic band go purple?

Let's assume my wife sets it up, then I would need to call MS to get another code that I could then use?

I'm a little unsure of how that will all work because, well, I don't have the account yet! But this was something I've been looking at and if there was something/anything we could do at first initial login or setup to ensure both of magic bands turned purple, it might be an easy time for us to do so! Appreciate all of the info on here, by the way. We're so excited to start planning trips and these boards have been information overload for newbies like us, which has been awesome.
