Making friends...

Hi snoopygirl79

Well I have to go back to pre-Lucy days (she is only 18 months or so, but she seems to have dominated our lives forever :rotfl: ) - since now I have friends from "mother toddler" groups, our pre-birth group, parents of other kids from her nursery (she is only mornings) etc.

Certainly whilst I was working, I had a lot of work friends. Ok it was an exceptional company with lots of really lovely people my age, but they would go for a drink (sociable, not getting sloshed) a couple of times a week. We also had running/badminton/bridge clubs at lunch times. There were other regular socials too. Great people...

Whilst husband was working for a company, we also had a lively social life with them. Now he has his own company, we still enjoy regular social events with his employees - it is a very relaxed company.

I belong to a gym. It is easy to make friends there - both in the gym and going to classes: people are always keen to chat.

In the past, we have also made friends through evening classes and sports clubs (badminton, self-defence etc) etc. Just going along to something that you are interested in and give it a go - there will be plenty of people in the same position as you.

Friendships often start small - a "nod and a smile" or just a "hello". But you can build and that and get to know people. I think the key is getting busy doing things with groups of people and then you can pick-up friends along the way :thumbsup2

Like you, my best friend is my husband. :)

Good luck :)

I only started on here a couple of months ago and find all these people on here really friendly.

Guys - clearly no one has started Sue's full initiation programme yet?! ;)

Only joking :rotfl:

Thanks everyone, you really have made me feel welcome!! :grouphug:

I'm just going through a bit of a low patch at the moment and I hope it'll pick up soon - just need to stay positive and be friendly to everyone I meet - virtual and otherwise!!

:yay:

I am in a similar situation as well. DBF and I moved to Reading for my job a few years ago so we no longer live near any of our family or friends. I have some work friends but I don't go out with them much socially so the DIS has been great and i'd count everyone on here as a good friend!
