Making a new reservation without canceling old?

I am a new DVC member. I made a reservation at my home resort but am thinking of switching resorts at the 7 months mark. I don't have enough points in my current UY to do both. So several questions: Will the online system let you book 2 different resorts for the same dates? If so, how can you handle 'borrowing points' without permanently moving them (I know the same points can't be put back once borrowed, but can member service reallocate the points so as to use the borrowed once on a different reservation and then bank the ones not borrowed?)? Also, I am afraid that if I cancel my current reservation and then don't get my new resort reservation due to availability, I will have nothing. Any advice?

I don't know if I'm making any sense, but I have to decide this today, so I'm desperate for some help. Thanks!

Yes, you can book two reservations for the same dates.
There is no way to borrow points without permanently moving them.
Yes, Member Services can reallocate points so that borrowed points are used first and current year points can be banked.
There is a way to hold a new reservation and cancel the previous reservation. It's not 100% foolproof, but it should work if you do it correctly.

Since your second reservation would be the one borrowing points there wouldn't be any reallocation necessary. You would just cancel the first one and bank the points.

However, as you see there is a way to hold and cancel that usually works.
