Makeup/Skincare chat

If you all like the CeraVe foaming face wash you should really try the Equate version at Walmart. I’ve used it for years now and can’t tell a difference between the two except it’s half the price.

I like the Origins GinZing gel moisturizer as well as Kopari Moisture Whipped ceramide cream. I usually also incorporate a hyaluronic serum, but I tend to mix that in with my foundation stick.

Does anyone have suggestions for face cream for very dry skin? My face (and skin I’d take a recommendation there too) hurt in the winter they get so dry. I’ve tried a bunch of products but find the thick creams that are probably what I need do not absorb well and the thinner products don’t seem to provide enough moisture.
The only thing that works for me (same problem) is straight up Vaseline. It is the only product that got me to stop flaking, that's how dry I was.

After you wash your face at night, spread on a layer of it and walk around for about 30 minutes. Blot it off before bed. In the morning, after a shower, I do the same thing. Spread it on, do my usual stuff, then I towel it off thoroughly before drying my hair and getting ready. I haven't had a problem since. Dermatologist is 100% behind using it.

I swear by Clinique's moisture surge. It's made a world of difference for me.
Thank you! I’m hoping to get in front of it this year before it gets bad.
I use ceravu therapeutic hand cream and neutrogena Norwegian formula (doesn’t absorb as fast, Vaseline like but good for cracking skin). Vaseline extremely dry skin rescue hand and body lotion is good. Wash dishes with cold/warm weather vs hot. For cracked heels use miracle heel stick (I keep one for using on knuckles during winter). I use Aveeno baby excema lotion multiple times a day. My dry skin is most likely caused by subtle wheat allergies as well.

Face: less is more. Use cetaphil gentle cleansing soap once or twice a day (less soap is better) and at night maybe use Lancôme renergie night cream. I use occasionally because the fragrance can be a bit too much at times. I mostly use the Repose cream by temple spa.

Most likely dry skin is caused by dehydration. I was always dehydrated despite drinking lots of water. A body fat analysis also showed dehydration despite drinking more than what was recommended before the test. If you exercise and you’re sweating a lot you need liquid Iv (Costco has them and I like the one with Vit c; it has 11 gms of sugar but I only use during HIIT; the sugar feee ones gave me a throbbing dehydration headache and I had to eat a lot of watermelon to make it stop. Ancient minerals Magnesium lotion+pedialyte weren’t as effective. Muscle cramps disappeared with liquid Iv.

Purified Omega7 helps with dry skin as well.
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to write this out. I’m going to give some of these a try. My knuckles and elbows tend to get really dry and crack so I really appreciate the suggestions!

Interesting I have been using Vaseline on my lips and elbows but not my face. Have you had any issues with breakouts when using it? Thank you!

I have not, but I'm not really prone to breakouts (no oil on my face). Believe me, I've tried just about everything people have mentioned here. It doesn't help that I have skin sensitivity. Most of these moisture creams have a fragrance of sorts, even if light. So while I don't get breakouts from those either, I will get a rash of sorts from an allergic reaction.

If you have really dry skin, I will look into getting a humidifier in the bedroom during winter
I have a humidifier in my bedroom and one that is attached to the furnace. We have forced hot air which can be dry and doesn’t help.

I have sensitive skin too. I tend to get rashes and irritated skin with certain products but have not had an issue with Vaseline and I have some in the house so I’m going to try it tonight. 😊

Can't wait to hear! It's kind of gross at first, but you get used to it.

Make sure your skins is still damp and slightly warm (so right after you wash). I had a friend who would mix some Vaseline in a separate tub with some water so it was a thinner concoction. She actually had somewhat oily, yet dry flaky skin, and she swore by this. I just put my straight on.

I started flaking pretty badly in my 30s. Now in my 50s and haven't had that happen since the Vaseline regimin. I've tried to go to using other things because I feel like I "should" but I go straight back to the tight, flaky, peeling skin.

A therapist once told me it would get rid of acne. I’ve never tried it but she said she puts unscented Vaseline on her face. I thought it would be too sticky and clog pores but she has a diploma in cosmetology.

For everyday wear I use bare minerals foundation (loose powder). It works well, doesn’t cause acne and is very light (has good spf). I only use Lancôme pressed powder if I’m in the parks (after applying badger sunscreen) or on special occasions. Dab Lancôme lipgloss.

I like Estee launder lipstick (plum bites) combined with Mac lip pencils (auburn is a nice dark wine color and out of stock at Macy’s/Bloomingdale’s routinely). I purchased a liptstick from Chanel (attraction) but the colors online are not accurate (it ended up being a brown (not wine) which I don’t use).

Get your ferritin levels checked if you have dry skin. I just found out I have very low ferritin.

It was mentioned previously, but it really helps to apply your moisturizers to damp skin. I swear by CeraVe in the tub for a facial moisturizer. Using a light application on a damp face will make it feel a bit slimy at first, but give it a couple of minutes. I use it twice a day.

I have tried fancy products but they are always bad news for me, it's not the expense or anything it just all has so much fragrance and chemicals that bother me & cause endless migraines, like what on earth is it they are using for fragrance? I use natural Dr Bronner's castile bar soap & if my skin is dry I dab on some olive oil & wipe away excess. I'm content and have abandoned the chemical filled beauty counters.
