Update: Points were credited back 😊
I am a charter cardholder from the first year. I do not use the card much anymore. I’ve always just moved my points to the redemption card once a year unless I am actually taking a trip before then. I have a reminder on my phone. This January I did slip and kept ignoring the reminder so I know I’m out my $2.63 that did expire but they took $50 off my last statement. I’ve done a google search and can’t find anything. I called and the representative didn’t know of any charges or penalties that would account for that. The only thing she could do is open a technical ticket as once they are expired they are gone from my account. I have now moved everything off to my redemption card. I know that would be better practice to do every month but I hadn’t had any issues doing it the way I had for years. 979B0B39-2936-46E3-9A5A-25FA5DC2AB5E.jpeg656BFB21-C155-47F5-9385-A3470ADA4406.jpeg

Rewards Dollar expiration

  • Rewards Dollars in your Account that are not transferred to a Redemption Card or applied as an Airline Statement Credit (as described below) will expire 5 years after the month they were first earned. You’ll have 60 billing cycles after the billing cycle in which Rewards Dollars first appear on your monthly Card billing statement to transfer or apply them – as long as you don’t lose them for any of the reasons described in the ā€œHow you could be prohibited from earning or redeeming Rewards Dollars or could lose Rewards Dollarsā€ section of these Terms and Conditions.
    • Rewards Dollars in your Account will expire on a first-in, first-out basis
    • Rewards Dollars transferred from your Account to a Redemption Card will never expire

That $50 looks odd, based on the other amounts shown. I'm also a day one cardholder, and I don't think I've ever allowed any points to expire. I usually move them off in large chunks once or twice a year to avoid shifting multiple small amounts and missing the deadline each month. You do know that the Rewards Redemption Cards no longer expire? So you can just shift that entire balance (or a portion of it) to a card and not have to pay attention to expiring points each month.

As I have always redeemed yearly in December there is no way the $50 was because it set there too long. And I never wanted to throw it all onto a redemption card at once as I always liked knowing there was some $$ towards the next trip and I didn’t have to worry about losing a card. But it’s all on one card now.

Your system is similar to mine except I limited to once a year. And yes I know redemption cards don’t expire but I’m notorious for misplacing credit cards. I can lock my regular cc’s from my phone but would hate to misplace a redemption card while on vacation. Will they replace a lost redemption card with a balance on it?

Yes, they will replace it. You just need to go to any guest relations ticket window and they will give you a new card. Then you just need to call and transfer the funds to the new card. It is very easy. I had to do this last time at Disney because I forget my redemption card at home.

50 exact is so weird… was there a promo at some point in the last few years where you earned $50? Maybe they stuck an early expiration date on those specific dollars as part of the promo?

I always transfer to a redemption card once a year, so I don't have to worry about points expiring. I keep the card in the same place and use it to pay for my annual dues for our vacation club.

I do the same.

Thanks for posting. I've been letting my points accumulate while we've been non-vacationing these past couple of years. You reminded me about that "expiration clause". :) I hope you're able to get your points back!

I’m wondering about this too. I did have a $50 promo a few yrs back but I should think that would still be shown as to when the point expire, like my expiring points should have been listed as $52.24. The odd thing is the exact amount of $50 being taken off. Waiting on the snail mail reply from them.

Thank you for the reminder!

Just an update. I did get the points back. Just checked and they are there. Haven’t heard any explanation. I did go back through my statements and it was five years ago that I earned a refer a friend promo for $50 in rewards. But those never showed an expiration date. Anyway, best practice is to redeem ASAP.

I lost out of points( $$) back in DEC, I could have kicked myself. Called to a redemption card next day.
Can not let that happen again!
