Make A Wish Sends Lauren to Disney World! * IT IS FINISHED...* *Updated 1/28/09*

Teresa, I said "maybe" which really means I don't forgive Sandra for being "meh" with Arminda. I mean, really! That child is positively exhuberant! How could anyone not even smile at her?:confused3

Hehe, I knew you weren't forgiving her Heather! Arminda however is much nicer than us! I told her how sweet Sandra was to Lauren and she said, "I guess maye she was just really tired the day we went there." Yes, exhuberant is the word that comes to mind when I tell people about Arminda!

And, when I told Lydia that Lauren got Susan, her litle eyes just lit up!

and, onto my notes about the TR....

The dance party looks like fun!

I love the videos!

Oh no! That giant chipmunk is beating up William!

Oh, now you made me cry (it's a good cry, don't apologize!) when you talk about sitting down on the bench reflecting on how happy you were.

Thank you so much for the card!!! Corey got the mail and was intrigued by who it could be from. I was hoping for some pictures of Lauren to show him, but oh well....

I have toyed with the idea of having Arminda going back to BBB and asking for Susan...

My favorite thing at the waterparks is the lazy river!

And, with that, I really better go to bed!

Thank you for the update, I've enjoyed reading it again. Lauren dancing with characters is just unbelievable sweet. And reading has helped know what to expect when we take jonah since he's in a wc and the accessibility of the rides. I was in grinning the whole time i was reading your last installment.

Was that not a BLAST! Can you feel it?!?! I hope you can...Because we had so much fun. This hour was worth the price of admission. It was fun! Probably one of the highlights of the whole trip for me personally. It was fun to watch the characters love on Lauren...and when the rest of the gang showed up...to watch them all dance together. I wish I could bottle that up and spread it around all year long! What a great time we had!

But...it had to end eventually...Midnight rolled around and we headed out. We were pretty slow leaving and I needed to find a restroom...so I left ahead of the gang and we decided to meet by the monorail entrance.

I distinctly remember sitting on a bench just outside of the MK gates...looking above my head at the monorail and thinking about how tired I was...but that it was a GOOD tired. I didn't remember being that happy in a long, long time. :cloud9: I sat on that bench and watched the monorails pass by and really enjoyed these moments of just quiet reflection. I prayed and thanked God for a wonderful day...a wonderful two days. Can it get any better than this? Life is good... :woohoo:
This brought tears to my eyes. You can tell how much you adore Lauren and her family.

And Disney does have that magical something about it. Lauren looks so happy!

I can't wait for the next installment!

Her wheels are awesome. My Emma has purple wheels. They are much smaller, she just turned 5.

We LOVE Disney World. We are going again on Thanksgiving but we are staying off site this time.

If you or Lauren would like to check out her website, here it is:

www.emmahopeworld.net

There are tons of pictures from our trip to DW this past Jan/Feb.

Amy

First of all...Emma is SOOOO cute! And you are doing a great job keeping all of those pictures updated, etc. I know that is not easy at all when you have a disabled child to take care of...Kudos to you!

Emma does remind me a LOT of the pictures and video I have seen of Lauren at that age. Full of life and so stinking cute in her little bitty wheelchair! Lauren was the youngest child (at the time) to get a power wheelchair in Mississippi. They had to submit a video to show that she knew how to cross the street and load up in the van, etc to get her insurance to pay for it. She was about 3 and a half, I think...and that was 12 years ago.

Has Emma done a Wish Trip yet? It is a wonderful experience! She could do Disney and stay at GKTW...or she could do whatever she wants!!

Where are you guys staying at Thanksgiving (you can PM me this info, if you want)...we are probably going to stay off site next time we go and are looking for something that is accessible (we do need a roll in shower, though) and fairly inexpensive.

And how did Emma get to be on Good Morning America? That is so cool!!

*******************************************************

My Emma got her wheels the week before she turned 3. She did really well right from the beginning.

Thank you for all your kind words about Emma. "Our girls" have a way about them. Emma is cute and Lauren is just simply beautiful.

Emma hasn't had a wish trip yet. Maybe some day.

I don't want to hijack your thread so I will PM you.

Amy

I am loving this trip report! You are such a great storyteller!

I can't wait for "my" outfit to show up. I am so happy I got a sneak preview on rocker day at school. That really made my day! I am so happy Lauren likes her skirt.

And I got a sweet card too. Thanks Mary!

Can't wait to read more!

Just checking in and catching up on your trip report!!!

Lauren looked absolutely beautiful in her Tinkerbelle costume for MNSSHP! She looks like she had a totally awesome time at the party. Tell her that Tink is one of my favorite Disney Characters. In fact, I'm carrying my Tinkerbelle purse with me today (its got the scene of Peter, John, and Wendy flying to Neverland and she's in green sequins and sparkley wings) Tink is awesome. I hope that everything has been well with her.

Bear Hugs and Pixie Dust,

Meredith :tinker:

First, thank you all for all of your posts and responses!! This is great!! I get to go hang with Lauren tonight :yay: and I can't wait to show her family all of the responses!! :)

Mary, you are so sweet! What a blessing to be able to have gone on Lauren's wish trip! I bet it was so much more enjoyable for Rick and Lisa with you along to help out!

I also have loved the details you have shared about access for disabilities as I am sure it helps a ton to know what to expect when going to such a large place!

Thank you for saying that. We did have a good time! And I do hope that Rick and Lisa had fun, too! We split up more than I would hope...since the kids enjoyed different activities...but it worked out fairly well.

We really did try to obtain some info that would help other Wish children and other children going to DW in a power wheelchair. We found a wealth of information on these boards...so this TR is sort of a Thank You to the boards for your help! Sue (on the disABILITIES board) does a great job collecting all kinds of info for all sorts of disabilities...so hopefully this will just add to that info...and mix a few tears and laughter in!

Thanks for hanging in there with us!

It sounds like you had a fantastic time:dance3: Magical moments like that are so good arent they?
I am so pleased that such a good time was had by all and especially Lauren. Her enjoying the Jammin' so much and being loved on by all the characters must have made up some for her not being so enthused about her BBB experience?

I am really loving your wish trip report....want more......give me MORE:laughing:

Mandy

Oh my, we sure did!! Lauren had a blast! That dance was really special...with all of the characters coming up to her and dancing...and all of the other kids dancing. It was just FUN!

I do have some more that hopefully I will have ready to post again tonight... :)

William, Lisa and Richard dancing with Dale.... :rotfl2: Priceless Fun!

I agree!! I told them earlier that I put it on the internet...Lisa was glad you guys were enjoying it. :rotfl: They are really being good sports! I thought they were going to die when I told them how many "views" they had on their report...:rotfl2: I don't think they realized how many people will actually SEE these pics. I think they just thought it was a few of my friends...:lmao:

So it's midnight...and I SHOULD be sleeping since I'll be up again to nurse Savannah in a couple hours. Why am I not off in the land of nod?...Because I'm addicted to your trip report! I guess I qualify as one of those "rabid fans" mantioned earlier ;)

I love all your pictures and video. It's getting me so excited for Sebastian's trip in 39 (just 39 more!) days. One thing is for sure...my trip report won't be "funny." You have a great way of writing that makes me laugh and smile.

I'll check back again tomorrow.

Okay, now I really should go to bed.

Yeah...I was still up at midnight, too...trying to get the next installment ready! And reading...other TR's... :) :rotfl2:

I am so glad that you like the pics! I am also so excited for Sebastian and your family! You are going to have SOOO much fun! It will be a wonderful trip! Magical!

I hope you slept well! and don't stay up too late tonight! :)

Bless Arminda's heart! So precious....

I think William enjoyed getting tussled around by that chipmunk!

I did not even THINK of putting pics of Lauren in those notes....what a good idea! I wish I had thought of that!!

My favorite attaction at the water park is the gentle big slide...I don't like the straight down slides...just the gentle ones!

I still think of sitting on that bench. I wish I had taken a picture of my view that night...or even video...not that it was pretty...just to remember that moment in time. But...I will have this TR to remember it by! :)

I vote to let Arminda go back and ask for Susan!

Thanks for hanging in there with us!! :)

I ran out of room and had to split this post up... :)

I know...it WAS so sweet...and I am glad that I am able to show you guys...

If you need any additional info about the rides...you can PM me...

Have you found the disABILITIES thread yet? There is a "sticky" on there that has a BUNCH of info about rides, etc. Because you guys may want to ride different stuff...?

Anyway, I am glad we were able to help!

Lauren DOES look happy, doesn't she! She was about to BUST with happiness, I think. She could not help but smile...

Next installment is coming tonight...I hope... :)

Oh...I really, really hope you guys decide to do Make-A-Wish sometime soon! I wish we had found it when Lauren was a little younger. Our friend wished to meet a famous person...and got to do it! Wow! Another wish Lauren thought of was to go to Paris and go shopping...(FUN!)...but not very practical for flying with her chair and baclofen pump.

I can't wait to show Lauren Emma's homepage and pics!! :) They are so similar! :)

I am loving this trip report! You are such a great storyteller!

aw...you are so sweet.. :)

Did I not post a pic of your outfit??!?!?! How in the world did that happen?! I need to go over to my Pretrippie and figure that out!!! and post one!!!

More is coming tonight!! :)

YEAH!!!! I am so glad...and so glad you told us!! :) We are having fun re-telling our stories... :) Glad you have joined us!

Bear Hugs and Pixie Dust,

Meredith :tinker:

She does, doesn't she! princess: I will tell her...actually, I will show her this as soon as I see her tonight! :)

You have a Tink purse?!?! Now, we don't need to tell her THAT... :lmao:

Lauren is doing really well. She has a LOT going on with school...being in High School is demanding on time for the schoolwork. Lauren doesn't "half do" anything, so it takes her a while to do all of her homework. And she is involved in lots of things at school...like Student Council, Youth Government Club, etc. And lots of things at church. So she is really busy (which means the folks that help her are busy, too!) And we love every minute of it! :)

Great report!! I am finally caught up, we just got home this morning at 2:20am, but I had to read this report no matter how tired I was.

I asked our Keys to the Kingdom Tour guide about accessiblity of the ride vehicles. He said many of Magic Kingdom's rides were built before ADA laws went into effect. If the ride is refurbed and the structure of a ride is changed, then they have to make it accessible. I asked because when they refurbed Spaceship Earth in Epcot they didn't make a more accessible ride vehicle (larger opening, more leg room etc), he said because they didn't change the structure they are not required to make accessible changes.

Buzz is one of Bill's favorite rides, 2nd to Toy Story Midway Mania, we both absolutely love that one!!

Another great couple of chapters Mary! You are really flying on these! I'm so used to s l o w e r trip report writers :rolleyes1

I loved seeing so much of MNSSHP through the eyes of you and "your" family! The dance party looked like so much fun! To this day, the Halloween parade is my all-time fave.:thumbsup2 (Still like the regular Wishes better, though....)

Lauren really did do it up right with her extra beauty touches! She looked stunning! And you all looked fab in your great costumes.

Thanks for working so hard on this.....I know it's a lot of work!!

Ok...where did we leave off...:confused3

Oh yeah...MNSSHP...What a BLAST! :dance3:

We left the Magic Kingdom and headed for the monorail. One stop and we were HOME sweet HOME! And we were TIRED. It was at least 12:30 am...LATE...

William, Rick and Lisa head to their room to go to bed...and Lauren and I head to bed. But FIRST...that bun...the one that has been plastered and re-plastered to her head...well, it needs to come down. We discuss actually washing her hair...but she is tired. So, we just take all the pins out and this is what we got...

IMG_3410-1.jpg

She is so tired...but her HAIR looks great! Like prom night or something! Go figure!

Anyway...we eventually get to sleep.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....................

At 3:30 AM the phone in our room rings  (which, by the way, is NEVER a good sign)...

...It is Richard..."Can you please meet me in the hall with the nausea medicine!" :scared1: I brought great nausea medicine with me...in case someone got sick...but we weren't supposed to NEED it! :sad2: "Lisa is sick  ..." (Like REALLY sick...I will spare you the details...but it was a little late for the anti-nausea medicine!) Oh no!!!!

So, I get the meds, prop open the door, and run down the hall to pass it to Rick. Oh no...Lisa is sick!?!? I have known them 2 years...I can't recall her ever getting sick like that?

So, I get back to the room and crawl back in bed.

Then I hear it...dreaded words..."Mary...Mary...I don't feel good...I think I am going to be sick." From LAUREN! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: What?!?!?! Are you serious? "I want my mom," she says.

"Lauren, your mom is sick in her room. Are you feeling sick?"

"Yes"...

Well...it was a LONG night...for several hours Lauren was up every now and then...sick...really sick...ya know what I am saying? This girl was SICK!   I gave her some of the same medicine...and that didn't stay with her...URGH...:headache:

Of course...I HAD to ask...what did you guys eat at the Castle........:confused3

The same thing...of course...the Castle!!! :headache:

And I laid there awake most of the night...waiting for her to call out again...and thinking...They got POISONED in CINDERELLA's CASTLE! I mean...no one ELSE was sick?!?!? They were sick at the same time! What is UP with THAT!

***SIDE NOTE: :teacher: (sorry, don't mean to scream at you...but this is important...:)) Just to be clear...they were NOT poisoned in Cinderella's Castle...it becomes clear...as this story unfolds...that this is a simple virus...So...in the interest of not spreading any rumors... let me clarify...the food is FINE!! and GOOD, I might add...but it was rich...and too much for them, since they had this virus.

Regardless...Lauren is sick. And Lisa is sick. But we eventually get back to sleep. We have 11:15 am reservations at Sea World the next morning and had already decided we were sleeping in some, since we were up so late...

So, the next morning...we got up...and got ready. But Lauren was not feeling well at all. :sad2: She was trying REALLY hard to feel good...but it was not really working. She was so nauseated. She wanted some Sprite...and it was just me in our room with her. I went to the hall to find a vending machine...no luck. So...I called Room Service...and told them I had a sick child that needed some Sprite...could they bring us some? In fact, bring two (I figured I would put one in the cooler for later, if we needed it)...

Can I just say...that was the most $$$ I have EVER paid for 2 Sprites in my whole life...$10.42  ...and I gave her a $2.00 tip for being so fast...(they were fast!)...but that was almost $15 for two SPRITES!

Lauren is being a trooper...and we keep getting ready. The idea is...let's just go to Sea World...and just feed the dolphins...and then we can come back and rest...(Please, Please...I want her to feed the dolphins!)...:worship:

But we got Lauren out of her chair, to rest a few minutes, and she was so tired...and sick...did I mention this child was SICK? ...she just fell right asleep.

So Rick, William and I head to Sea World and Lisa stays with Lauren. More to come...continued in next post...

Sea World - Part One!

.

We had pre-paid for "Backstage at Believe"...a buffet and background show about the Shamu show, Believe. So William, Rick and I headed to the backstage of Believe.

First of all...Sea World is HUGE...a lot bigger than I thought. And we were running really late. But we made it to the ressie...20 minutes late. And it was not a big deal! They were really nice...and we really had not missed much.

This is a picture of the "Backstage at Believe" view. This is one of the training pools for the killer whales. In the background of this picture, you can see a screen. This is for the "Backstage at Believe" presentation. Behind that and to the right in this picture, you can barely see the main show pool.

IMG_3422-1.jpg

Here is a picture of William at our table...how about those seats? Our view was pretty awesome.

IMG_3416-1.jpg

The food at this buffet is GREAT! Everything was paid for already...so we got "free" drinks (even beer if that is your thing, but we passed)...Rick did get a cappuccino, though. Nice. And I had some banana's foster for dessert. Yum! It was pretty scrumptious!

Anyway...in the middle of the presentation one of the whales came into this training pool! Now, this is not a normal event...they usually stay in the other pools, evidently. But this killer whale came into this pool  and was swimming around and around...occasionally jumping :yay: for us! We were RIGHT there. And it was there for a while! Very cool to watch! :thumbsup2

Now, my photography skills are not great...so I am not so good at getting whales as they jump...this is the best picture I have of it...but to give you an idea of how close we were...that black blob in the water...right in front of our table...can you see it?...it is sorta long...a long black blob...right by the edge of that rock right in front of our table...well, that is a killer whale...we were CLOSE. It was cool. (No zoom on this shot.)

IMG_3411-1.jpg

Here is another shot of it...I sort of got it out of the water a little bit...I think this is it's tail...(and this is from our table...no zoom!)

IMG_3421-1.jpg

And a trainer eventually came out and gave it like BUCKETS of fish to jump for us...I had NO idea they could eat that much fish...as a treat for jumping. I would like to see LUNCH for them! And I don't want to BE lunch for them!

IMG_3419-1.jpg

This was all nice...in fact, it was really cool. But, it would have been MUCH, MUCH cooler if Lauren and Lisa had been with us. That is really all I kept thinking about.

When we finished eating, we had reserved seats at Believe. So, without having to wait for the crowds, we got escorted to our seats. We watched Believe...

This the view from the Believe show...

IMG_3423-1.jpg

Now, you can find MUCH better pics of Believe than what I got...which was basically NONE. Richard was catching video of the whole thing on the family video camera for Lauren. So, I decided I would just sit back and watch it. (And, honestly, I was kind of in a funk and not worried about taking pics for this TR...sorry...I was bummed!)

It was a good show...If you want more info about it...check You Tube...or something...you won't find out much here...sorry!!! :rotfl:

I had a one track mind that day..."Lauren is GOING to FEED some DOLPHINS!" She has always wanted to swim with them...and this WAS going to be one of her favorite park days...URGH...:headache:

So, we split up again. Rick and William go to ride some rides and I went to see if Lauren could feed the dolphins. I figure, when she wakes up, we can have it set up and just do it! So, I grab her magic button and go to the dolphin feeding area. I talked to a CM (are they called that at Sea World?) anyway...I didn't really talk to her as much as cried to her...I was a mess. I just lost it talking to this poor lady. Explaining that Lauren was here on a Wish Trip and she was in the hotel sick  ...and she wanted to feed the dolphins. Could we make that happen? The whole time I was crying like a baby! :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: But, YES, we can make that happen.

If we can be there at 3:00 sharp...they can get Lauren in first for the next feeding. Evidently the dolphins feed better at the beginning of the feeding than at the end...I guess they get full!

So, I called Lisa...and they were awake...and Lauren was feeling BETTER! and wanted to feed the dolphins! :yay: :yay: :yay:

The plan...I need to get back to the hotel...quick! To pick them up. (By now it is like...almost 2:30)...but they are going to meet me at the front door and I am to bring them right back to Sea World! :cool1:

So, I run...not walk...to meet Rick and William again...and we swap...van keys for the magic button. I pin the magic button on William's lanyard...so that he won't lose it...but can use it to ride something QUICK before his sister gets back.

So...I am going to LEAVE you with this...She IS going to feed the dolphins...but I have more pics to go through...SORRY!!!!...before I can post it...:sad2: I know, I know...another cliffhanger... It's here!!

Sea World - Part TWO - DOLPHINS!!!
.

Ugh... I knew it was coming, but still... reading it just makes me sooo sad. I hate there was so much illness on Lauren's Magical Trip! Awesome view at the Believe Backstage thingy. We've never been to Sea World, I think my kiddos would LOVE it! Can't wait to see pics of Lauren feeding the Dolphins. Oh and BTW TY for the TY card... I enjoyed making the shirts for Richard and Lisa... I hope they fit okay, can't wait to see pics of everone wearing their BG things.

popcorn::

Another CLIFFHANGER! I just cannot handle this! I know how hard it is to get all the pictures uploaded for a TR though so I can't complain too much!

This was a BAD time for a cliffhanger though! I am glad that I *THINK* Lauren gets to feed the dolphins!

BTW, Jill and I had a discussion about the thank you notes and how sweet they were and could we thank you for a thank you note! And guess we can since she did, so THANK YOU too!

Jill is my real life best friend, but now a days she has become my phone best friend kind of as she lives 4 LONG hours away!

You cant leave it like that!!!!!

Poor Lisa and Lauren:(, it must have been hell for you too!

You CANT leave it like that!! Talk about cliffhangers

As soon as I saw the "Update" line come up in my email I said loudly YES!!! I have to say I'm happy dh is not around, he'd have thought I'd gone :crazy2: !! :rotfl: Loved the update! I just feel so bad that you guys had to get sick on your trip... :sad2: I hope you were able to enjoy most of it anyways.

Jessica, that is so funny, I was wondering if I should thank her for a thank you note too!

I love this TR. I want to know how Lauren is. Did she get to feed the dolphins? These cliff hangers make me crazy!! LOL

I can't wait to read more!
