So our son was qualified for make a wish last week. We're waiting to be assigned volunteers then we will have the meeting on what he would like to wish for. Our son is non verbal he's almost 3 years old & his language/speech is of an 15 month old on the scales. He doesn't use sentences, two words at a time or anything like that. He's epileptic, autistic & also had a pernatal stroke (while in the womb) that's caused a lot of his issues that will not be able to repair. His right side is super weak he does 90% of his tasks with his left side.

But to jump to why I posted in the forum. How do the make a wish teams work with granting wishes to those who are unable to fully express what they'd wish for if able to talk? And how long from the time they come to the home will it take normally to grant the wish?

The things he likes are (Disney cars, minions, hot wheels, warm water, watching kids play on YouTube kids on his tablet, ninja turtles, swimming, riding carnival rides & watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse).

We were a make a wish family many years ago. We as parents really chose the wish, while they do ask the kids, it's really up to the parents as well.

Well he's unable to tell them what he would like to wish for, he cannot write either. More or less he's like an infant in his mind. We do know things he seems to enjoy & like.

I'm sorry, I'd just tell them what you know he will enjoy. I've seen them ask the parents in situations such as yours. If you think he will enjoy Disney, a cruise, special toys, etc., let them know, I'm sure they will honor it. Good luck and if you choose Disney, have a blast!

ETA: After the interview, they find a sponsor for your family, then they start trip planning. They planned our trip in a month, we did a 3 night Disney cruise followed by 4 nights at Disney World. We chose not to stay at GKTW though, and stayed on Disney property instead. Everything was covered, including spending money.

Thank you! I know a friend of mine went on a MAW trip to Disney & stayed at the Animal Kingdom Resort because his initial wish was Africa but she said they had less spending money due to not staying at GKTW.

Our son likes Minions, Disney Cars, Mickey Mouse Club House, he loves riding carnival rides, warm water (swimming in warm water), loves hot wheels, watching kids play on YouTube kids on his tablet, he does say "wow" when he sees a boat on the water. So I'm a little torn...I think a trip like you all did he would enjoy but not sure how to ask for that. I'm very surprised you all got to go on a Disney cruise plus went to Disney world.

They have to be very accustomed to working with granting wishes for kids who are non-verbal. They would rely on the caregivers who know the child the best to express what they child would enjoy the most.

Our son loves Disney Cars, cars in general like Hot Wheels, Minions, playing in warm water isn't a fan of cold, loves & is amazed by fish, minions, Legos, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Paw Patrol & Blaze.

No one knows you child better than you do, so just tell them what your little guy would enjoy. Best wishes on your trip!

Since the OP has an identical thread running on disABILITIES, I'll close this one.
