Just stopping by to say hello. I realized today that after introducing myself last week, I virtually disappeared. After the initial elation of hearing from MAW that if Ali's doctor confirms her diagnosis, she will most certainly be approved, we are now experiencing a let down of sorts and all the uncertainties that accompany having a child with mitochondrial disease seem to be magnified. This is all compounded by the fact that she is currently sick, and since most viruses with her explode into bacterial infections, there is a medium to high likelihood that she will spend Thanksgiving in the hospital. She also has multiple drug allergy syndrome, which means that she is allergic to every. single. antibiotic. If she needs abx, even for something as innocuous as a run of the mill ear infection, she will need to be admitted to the PICU at our children's hospital two hours away. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this runs its course quickly and uneventfully.

So I am still reading, and very excited for all of you getting ready to leave over the course of the next couple of weeks - so exciting!:cheer2:

HI again, I too introduced myself and then disappered! I have been lurking around here and reading a lot of pre-trip and trip reports and using up quite a few boxes of tissues!!

Brian, my wish child,His wish granters are coming here tomorrow for our first meeting with them!! He is very excited!!! Not sure what to expect!! This has all come about quickly and I really do not have to much of a knowledge base about it! Sounds silly!

Maroo, can you PM me about how to start a pre trip report??

Which characters usually come for photos at GKTW??
I'm assuming the disney ones are mickey & minnie?
Who are the Nickelodian ones & the universal ones? if they change, which ones normally come? is it worth waiting around GKTW for universal/ nick ones?

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear about the unexpected deployment. It is especially hard when you don't have family around. Do you live near a base? Are there other military families that can help you out? We live near an AFB and also my husband works in law enforcement and many of his coworkers are in the reserves. We have quite a few neighbors and friends who have been or are now deployed. We tend to become our own extended family when husbands are gone for months or years at a time. :grouphug: I wish you lived near me so you could be part of it! I hope your friends and neighbors will step up to the plate! And please do give updates when you can. We'd love to see your TR but want to hear what's happening in your lives now as well.

We live in Minneapolis. There is Fort Snelling nearby, but my husband was inactive reserves, so we really have no affiliation with the base. We also just moved into our house 1 1/2 years ago from out of state, so dont really have too many friends. I have had some people at work offer to help out, some I am close friends with and others that I see on occassion. I just don't know if there offers were said in passing or not. I also am not one to ask for help, but we'l see. Thanks so much

When we were there they said disney was guaranteed Minnie and MIckey and then whoever else can make it. That being said, we went to 2 mornings of disney characters and the second time it was Mickey and Pluto in the theatre. I never asked why Minnie wasn't there the second time. The first times was Minnie, Mickey, Donald, Pluto and Goofy. The second was Mickey, Pluto, Goofy and Mary Poppins. Nickelodean was Dora and Universal was Ted and Curious George.

I'm so glad you asked! I love telling people!

So, ARminda is named after her Great-Great Grandma, who was from Germany. Where is your family from?

And, I think it's really cool that you have names so close in your family AND your daughter's name is Tessa! Heather named her little girl Tessa because it is a nickname for Teresa, and my husband calls me Tessie.

I didn't realize your sister was HeatherSue! Being fairly new to the boards I don't know many people, but she was one of the first I met and thought it was so cool that she had a Tessa! I babysit a 2yo and she calls her Tessie. Too funny.

The first Ariminda that I know of is my GG grandmother (Amanda Ariminda actually). She was from England. She named one of her daughters Ariaminda, my G grandmother. It skipped a couple of generations but I have a cousin named Holly Ariminda and I'm really hoping she passes it on because I think it's so beautiful. I also love perpetuating family names, in general. Phoebe is named after my GGGG grandmother on one side and her middle name Olivia is my G grandmother on the other side. (Amanda Ariminda also has a sister named Phoebe, named after the same one) Since we didn't know if we'd get to raise another girl I wanted to use both of them. ;)

So, I'll take your novel and raise you one!:lmao:

Whatever we call it...I got it! My husband just looked at me and said, "I know you are dying to get on your Disney board....so go on....no need for an explanation:laughing:"

That's too funny! Mine knows exactly where I want to be as soon as the kids are in bed.

I think many of us can relate to what you are feeling. It's very bittersweet to accept a gift like a MAW trip, when we think about why it is being offered.

This is all compounded by the fact that she is currently sick.....
We're keeping our fingers crossed that this runs its course quickly and uneventfully.

I hope so too! It's no fun to spend time in the hospital, let alone a holiday.

Brian, my wish child,His wish granters are coming here tomorrow for our first meeting with them!!

How exciting! Can't wait to hear about it!

Maroo, can you PM me about how to start a pre trip report??

Just in case Maroo doesn't log on any time soon (:rotfl2:), I'll try to help...Go to the main page of the boards and find the "PRE trip report" section. Once you are there you should see a tab for "start new thread". Once you post there make sure to add the link to your signature so everyone can follow along.

:rotfl:

Lydia was also named for her Great-Great Grandma, on my Dad's side. And, her middle name is Rose, after Brian's Mom, Rosemary. I like the family names too!
Corey was named after his great-grandpa Corey Hart... ;) :rotfl:

Yep, Heathersue is my little sister and my best friend.

Wow! I had a busy weekend and while I was busy - you guys were too!!

Small warning...I will be starting a new thread on Christmas Day again this year...since I started this one on Christmas Day, I think it will be cool to start a new one again on Christmas Day (and I also get bored at my house and need something to do!) ;)

We have to start a new thread when we hit 250 pages anyway.

Just a warning...I will give links to the new thread once I start it and it will be helpful if everyone will start posting on the new thread. :thumbsup2

Thanks marro i pm you did you get my message?

I did. I wrote you back this morning! :goodvibes

:rotfl: :rotfl2:

I'm so glad you asked! I love telling people!

Most people assume it's a "made up" name. Which, bothers me more than it should!

I am going to give you the long version, I hope you don't mind!!!

When my Mom was growing up, she always thought her Grandma's name (her Dad's Mom) was Minnie. That's what everyone called her and when she died that's what they put on her headstone.

When my sister (Heathersue here on the Dis) was in 5th grade or so, they had a little fund raiser and one of the things they were selling was a "tell me about yourself" type book for Grandparents. So, my Mom ordered them and had my Grandma and Grandpa fill them out. Well, my Grandma didn't write much in it, but the one very important thing we did learn was that my Grandpa's Mom's name wasn't really Minnie, but Arminda. My Mom and I both fell in love with the name and I always hoped to use it one day.

Well, many many years later when I was pregnant for our first baby, I suggested to Brian (my husband) that we name the baby Arminda. He vetoed that. The next two times I was pregnant we stuck with the girl name we picked out for Corey. (which was Kayleigh). But, when I got pregnant with Arminda, I told Brian I really wanted to name the baby Arminda if it was a girl. I think after all we'd been through, he couldn't say no at that point. So, he agreed. Her middle name is Sue, after my sister. :-) We never did get a boy's name picked out, so it was a good thing she was a girl!!!

Ok, to make this even LOOOONGER.... When people would ask me what her name was when I was pregnant and I told them, I can't even TELL you how many people asked, "Are you going to call her Army?" hahahaha.... yah, funny.... After she was born, Brian's Aunt asked what we were going to call her. When I told her, "Arminda" She said, "Well, I guess it's up to you." People are fun....

Sorry for the novel, but since you asked and all...:rotfl: So, ARminda is named after her Great-Great Grandma, who was from Germany. Where is your family from?

Hello!

I think someone answered you already...I am usually on here every day, but I had company and a wedding this weekend and was MIA!

There are instructions on the First Page, Second Post (under all of the wish trip reports) about starting a pre-trip report and how to post pictures. Hopefully those hints will help you take the next step in DISing! :)

Which characters usually come for photos at GKTW??
I'm assuming the disney ones are mickey & minnie?
Who are the Nickelodian ones & the universal ones? if they change, which ones normally come? is it worth waiting around GKTW for universal/ nick ones?

They usually have Mickey and Minnie...and I have seen Pluto and Goofy and Mary Poppins often...but you never know. I would not really "plan" to meet them at GKTW...If you can, great - but if you can catch them in the parks, I would go ahead and meet them. Make sure you use your button at those lines, too.

That's too funny! Mine knows exactly where I want to be as soon as the kids are in bed.

Oh wonderful! You have time to think about any dining reservations you might want and get ready to snag them at 180 days advance! I can understand not telling the kids yet. We've told ours but they are still too young to understand timelines so they didn't think too much about it. Phew!

:cool1: Yay for dates!! Cant wait to read your PTR.

Morning all!! Things went great last night!! First, my kids, all of them, were off the wall excited!! To the point that I was ready to kill them or disown them!! LOL!!! :sad2:

The wish grantors arrived bearing gifts for Brian!! They chose to bring him a few action figures!! Brian LOVES action figures and one the ones they brought, the white ninja from GI Joe, was his halloween costume this year!!! Needless to say HUGE hit!:yay::yay:

They asked Brian for his wish....he told them "I wish to go on a Disney Cruise"!!:banana: They were so great, they asked me for dates and said that is a pretty easy wish to grant and they just need medical approval from his doctor and then we will get some final plans!!! :thumbsup2 I mentioned that I really did not want the kids to miss school and they said that Easter Vacation should be very do-able!! I'm soo excited for him and I'm so starting my diet (just to be safe!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:)

Brian's siblings were very helpful and when the wish grantors arrived they were well behaved (Thank God!!) Catherine -8, was more than willing to answer every question for Brian, while he enjoyed playing with his new toys!!

I will have to get started on the pre-trip report as well as daily visits to the gym!!!

Pre-trip reports ROCK! Post-Trip Reports rock even more!

Enjoy your daily trips to the gym. :thumbsup2 I have been trying to get in shape myself. I am going on a cruise - June 2011 - on the Dream. And it is going to take me that long to be willing to put on a swimsuit and get on that see through slide. So, I feel your pain.

:yay: Disney Cruise!!! :)

:cool1: How exciting! A disney cruise, that was our second choice. With Disneyland as our 3rd choice :rotfl:
I am also trying to get started on a diet. Want to try to lose 20 lbs by March. The problem is Ive become so addicted to these boards. I have to get off of here and exercise. Cant wait for your PTR!

Not to FURTHER your addiction... (would I do that?!?!? nah. :rotfl2:)

But there is a whole WISH section of the DIS - not related to Wish Trips - that is all about being Inspired to Stay Healthy (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy)...toward the bottom of the first screen.

And they have a LOT of fun ideas, threads, and groups of very nice people that will keep you motivated and held accountable - if you are interested!

I have lost 5 pounds already (2 weeks into this) - so maybe we can do that on here, too. :)

Yea! How wonderful! I am excited to hear about you planning for a Disney Cruise! I would like to take the girls on one when they are older (like 5 years from now when I can afford it :rotfl:). Good luck on your diet!
