Major Problem with Toys R Us Cards from Hotwire - LONG

I wanted to let everyone know about a problem with the TRU/BRU cards I ordered from Hotwire. Let me start off by saying that I have ordered over $2,000 in merchandise from them this year, including park tickets, vouchers, and gift cards. On 11/16, I placed an order from Hotwire for various gift cards and vouchers. I wanted to do some Black Friday shopping, so I ordered 8
$25.00 Babies R Us cards (I am close to my maximum for TRU cards). I received an email notification that my order was shipping, but that the BRU cards were back-ordered. I received my shipment, no problem. A few days later I receive another email that they are shipping the back-ordered BRU cards. I got the shipment this past Tuesday (right before Thanksgiving). I open the package and notice right away that they sent me Toys R Us cards....no problem they work the same. Also they are yellow the TRU I had ordered a few weeks prior were green. I count the cards 1, 2, 3...8 ok, ready for shopping. I head out on Black Friday to do my shopping and pull out my cards. I had a stash of green TRU cards left, so I use those first. Those are all fine....$25 each, then I hand him 1 of the new yellow cards....only $20 comes off the total....hold up, wait a minute :confused:. What is going on. I finish my purchase and go out to the car. I call to check the balance on the remaining 7 and they are all $20 cards.

Anyway, today I called and emailed customer service and they are going to check into it. I just wanted to give the heads up to my DISfriends to be on the lookout for these cards. I have learned a valuable lesson and will always call to check the balance right away.

Please send some major pixie dust my way that Hotwire will get this straighted out. I will keep everyone posted.
 
I also have yellow ones, but they are all fine. We had previously ordered 8 other cards(not sure of the color) and we already used them and they were all fine. I hope they are able to solve your problem quickly.
 
I just signed up to be a member and the gift cards are for Baby are Us. I was afraid to order these because I only want Toys are Us. Are you saying that will be what I will get?

The same thing just happened to me. I ordered some gc back on Nov 17--took them a week to even ship them and yesterday when I went to TRU the cards popped up with a $20 value. Of course they were closed then so I have to wait til Monday to call. They better be sending me some additional cards to make up the difference or my cc company will be notified of a dispute.

BRU ones can be used at TRU and vice versa.
 
4greatboys...sorry it happened to you too. I hope that we can both get this straightened out quickly.

me too! I hoping since it happened to more than one of us we wont have to argue to much with them. Surely they know they messed up. I'll post an update tomorrow. You too.
 
Definitely let us know what they do about it. I just ordered some gift cards from Hotwire this weekend and I'll check the balance when I get them.

So, the green ones were ok? I have used almost $200 worth. I guess I better check my receipts and make sure. I went on-line yesterday to order more and the TRUs ones weren't listed at all so I just ordered some Babies R Us ones. Maybe they pulled them until they can fix the problem???
 
Marymrg--Toys R Us and Babies R Us giftcards are the same. The ones I ordered were the BRU ones.

CS said he would forward this to the dept that looks into these types of problems and I told him I wanted a cb asap on the result. He said I could just request at credit for that missing amount if I wanted to. He also said to submit and email via the Hotwire site which I did. Im going to give them a day or two to call me back and then I will start calling them again and notify my credit card as well.
 
I always check the balance on giftcards (they all have a phone# or website on the back of card) as soon as I receive them. It only takes a minute and if there is a problem you can resolve it ASAP, rather then when you are trying to use the card.

I have never had a problem with any of the cards I've purchased from Hotwire but did have an issue a couple years ago with one purchased in the store it was for. Learned my lesson then and have checked ever since.

Even when my DD receives them as gifts I check the balance ASAP.
 
Your right Buttercup I should have checked but I hadnt had any problems before so I just took it granted. Lesson learned and I will be checking those asap from now on.
 
UhOh. I just sent a couple of these cards to my niece as a baby gift. I might email her and let her know that they should be worth $25 each.

I didn't even know you could call and request the balance on the phone. I will keep that in mind.

I checked my receipts and called the number to verify my remaining gc's. All were fine. However, I'm expecting a few more of the BRUs cards to arrive in a day or two, so I'll be especially careful..

I hope the problem gets resolved to your satisfaction soon!
 
I will be definitely checking the balance on my GCs from now on. I am still waiting to hear something back. I will keep everyone posted.
 
Good news! I received a message from Hotwire that TRU was going to add $5 to each of the gift cards. I called and checked the balance on each and they are now $25. :D
 
They the $5 to each of mine too,but I had already used 2. So I emailed them back they could send me a $10 gc or credit my account back $10 extra dollars. I think they handled the other cards pretty quickly.
