I went shopping yesterday for an outfit to wear to my work Christmas party. BIG MISTAKE!!! I must have tried on everything in the stores and NOTHING fit! Too tight or too long. And are the sizes getting smaller????

I had been feeling really good about myself lately and my weight loss efforts: feeling proud and better in my skin. Yesterday I left the mall crying and was sad all day. I couldn't stop crying. I felt horrible about myself and my body and still have nothing to wear the christmas party.

Anyone have this kind of experience when you need to find an outfit for a special event?

Wow you just described me every summer when I have to buy a bathing suit.::yes::

Okay - breathe! I have found that typically when I am having a similar day it is not that I am fat, huge, and can't wear anything - but it is because I am trying to buy the wrong things for my body type. Yes body type is real. Some women have large breast, some don't - they can't wear the same types of clothing.

Look at you! You have lost 15 lbs. - Do you know how much weight that is? Go pick up 3 bags of 5lb potaotes at once and that is how much weight you have taken off your body! You should be feeling like a million dollars! Do not let one shopping trip spoil that for you. And YES they are making sizes smaller.

You will find something to wear to the Christmas party. I am always able to find something at Target, Lerner New York, and Old Navy for a special occasion - depending on how old you are (Old Navy clothes are a little "young" looking and may not work with your personality - although I don't know your age so either way go for it!) Good Luck to you and don't let the mall get you down.

Joats-

So sorry to hear that it was a disaster day but today is NEW day - let's see a great big ol' smile for what you have done so far!! Much better - I'm also thinking hormones here -so just hang in there ;) 15 pounds - that is an awesome accomplishment !!!

You will find the right thing - how soon is the party. I bet the next time out you will be just so ecstatic and I hope we get a pix of just how "holiday" georgous you are.

Sending PD~******PD~******* PD ~******PD~*******PD
and big hugs!

I don't know what you were shopping for, but formal clothes are sized smaller. Don't get down on yourself. You are doing a great job. You should be proud of yourself.

Thanks everyone for your support and kind words. I'm having a better day today!!
I'm so glad that I have WISH!!

Do you have a favorite dressy item that has grown too big for you? Have it altered and dress it up with new accessories. When I first started losing weight, I altered my favorite clothes. In particular, I had a black satin dressy dress remade. It looked good and I didn't need to deal with arbitrary sizing. I knew that my dress had gotten too big & looked much better on me after it was taken in.

This happened a couple of weeks ago on my birthday. My husband had made reservations at my absolutely favorite restaurant for dinner out and a few hours before sheparded me to the mall to find something nice to wear.

Needless to say the only thing I bought was new stockings and socks!

It is so frustrating! Our closest mall isn't very big and even the department stores don't have much of a selection. Most of the stores cater to teens - a "prom dress" even in a size I can wear isn't exactly what I had in mind.

I do think clothing lines are getting trimmer in their sizing - even though the manufacturers swear they've been adjusting their sizes upward. But just look at the jeans out right now - lowrise, no room for thighs...

I feel your pain, really I do.

I've been there too - just take a breather and try again in another weekend. Remember, size doesn't matter- fit matters, so try (emphasis on the TRY) to ignore the number on the tag - yes things are sized inconsistantly nowadays.

I am a big fan of TLC's "What not to wear" show and that is one thing I have learned from them - is ignore the size tag and find something that fits you - and if you need to have it altered to fit you better - so be it - you will feel better about yourself if something fits you nicely.

You have made a big accomplishment with the 15 lb loss, now is not the time to get down on yourself!

So put on your control tops, and bring some nice shoes with you, so you can see how things will look when you are dressed up. Do your hair and makeup before you go too - that sometimes helps if I feel good before I start out versus going in slouchy socks, no makeup and flat hair - it's the little things that give you a lift.

Good luck!
