Maintenance/Repair Question

Hi. We are currently staying at the Poly DVC on rented points. I have a silly question: can we still call someone for maintenance issues? Also, do the fridges normally have the knobs removed? I just electrocuted myself trying to turn the post with some tweezers. We thought maybe they were removed on purpose? It is barely keeping anything cool. Thanks!

You can still call. Especially if you can get by with ice machine ice.

But if the warm refrigerator would cause spoiled food or medicines by the am, I'd consider walking to the front desk for a more immediate replacement.

Refrigerators do not have the knobs removed and normally can keep things cold. On the room phone you hit the key for Housekeeping/Engineering and pick engineering from the prompts you get to report the problem. Usually, they send someone fairly quickly (we have averaged less than 30 minutes before someone came; the real issue becomes whether they can immediately fix the issue you have once they arrive; if a studio refrigerator, they should be able to either fix it or replace it fairly quickly as long as another is readily available).

Thanks! We will go down or call.
Call engineering first as drusba suggested. If you get no response from them, then go to the front desk. Don't call the front desk from the in-room phone as that call actually goes to an off-site call center.

Poly doesn't have buttons on the phone for maintenance or engineering. Maybe not for housekeeping either.

We walked to the front desk to report a maintenance issue in our parents villa. Maintence guy showed up inside an hour.

FYI, engineering came and said that they purposely removed the knobs and "it is really just a cooler and not a refrigerator."

Its really frustrating to hear a cast member say some thing like that. Disney's own website calls it a small refrigerator, not a cooler. And purposely removing the knobs does not sound like something that should be done for reasons of safety.

The DVC villas do NOT have beverage coolers. They have REFRIGERATORS. They are sold as a "home away from home" resort and most HOMES have a refrigerator, not a cooler. Our maintenance fees do not pay for an icebox from the Carousel of Progress....we pay for actual refrigerators that keep our food cold.

OP, please make sure that maintenance addresses this properly and report it to DVC Member Satisfaction if necessary.

:sad2:

Might be time to walk to the front desk and ask for a resort manager to share this with.
That has to be one of the silliest responses I've ever heard of.

I was in Kidani and then Jambo this past December, studios both times, DVC. I don't remember which, but one room had no knob on the thermostat. If this is something that Disney is now doing purposely, I guess I will have to bring needle nose pliers with me next trip. I need the temperature low in order to keep food frozen.

They removed the temperature knobs on the undercounter refrigerators and the hotel refrigerators because people were turning them down so low to freeze stuff since there isn't a freezer. And that tends to ruin the refrigerators. If guests would just get over the fact that there isn't a freezer section any more (which is bad I agree), they are not going to freeze stuff in it.
